Adding a sub to my monitor setup?

I currently use two Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2a Active Monitors. Can I add a KRK subwoofer to my setup, or do I need to use matching speakers and subwoofer? Will this affect my level of accurate referencing? Thanks.
 
i'd be careful of adding a sub to your room if you haven't got any half-serious room treatment going on. it could great more moitoring problems than it solves.

it can also, if you haven't got them 2.1 system properly calibrated, lead to you producing bass-light mixes..
