what would i need to add 8 more inputs to a digi 002?? i read something about adat optical but i dont know what that is. this might be a stupid question but does that mean that i would have to buy an alesis adat recorder??? is it possable to record more than 8 inputs at one time into the digi 002 just with the digi 002 itself? if so, how??

The 002 has an optical input which can carry 8 channels up to 48kHz. It's digital so to use it you need a digital converter that has optical out (it's also called lightpipe). So if you are using mics you would need mic pres, then into a converter. Or there are things like the Presonus Digimax, 8 pres with a converter, I don't know how good it is though. People do use ADATs as converters too. There's also s/pdif, which is digital as well and can carry two channels up to 96kHz on an rca connector. So with the right converters you can do 18 simultaneous tracks. Good Luck

thanks! does anyone know if i can use my outboard rack gear for verb and delays with the digi 002?? does it have an effects loop or do i have to buy plugins??

I am almost positive you can run FX loops. The only concern is with latency.

are we talking about the rack mount version or the little mixing board one? Or do they basicaly have the same features in and out wise?

I assume you're using it with pro tools, but you can use any of the analog or digital outs as either inserts or aux sends. I've had latency issues when sending from one computer to another to used the plug-ins on the other, but it wasn't anything that i couldn't fix. I really haven't noticed any with outboard gear though.

The 002 and the rack version have all the same I/O

Yes you can!

Yes you can use your outboard gear like effects with the digi 002. Let's say your going to use the Digi 002's 8th channel for the effects. You need to run a cable out from the 002 into the effects unit then out from the effects unit into the 002. Make sure the the input and the output are going to the same channel on the 002 or it won't work. I have done this with my 002 and haven't had any problems.

Good luck,
sonicpaint

...then, if you have any latency problems with that track, just nudge it back a bit to make up for it.

Have fun,
Chris
