this device uses adat Behringer ADA8000 Ultragain Pro-8 A/D/A Converter what the hell is that? and is it compatible with my mr8hd?
 
ADAT is a digital protocol (coined by Alesis and the now almost defunct ADAT recorders) that shoves 8 tracks digitally down an optical cable.

It is NOT the same protocol as a standard optical S/PDIF (TosLINK) although the connector is.

Unless your mr8hd has ADAT I/O (I would imagine it doesn't) it's not something you can use. There are interfaces that have ADAT optical I/O for PC/Mac though...

The mr8hd is an all-in-one unit, you don't need anything else.
 
yea i know but i would like to have more tracks to work with so what do i need to get the adat device hooked up

you can't
like Massive said, you need a device that accepts the ADAT optical protocol...your Mr8hd does not have this.
The maximum tracks you can record is 4 at a time
And you can only have 8 tracks played back at a time.
 
What Benny said. Your unit won't let you do any more than you can right now. If you want more tracks, you need to get a different system.
 
yea i know this..... i want a different system. i just want someone to give me a good starting point
 
Are you going computer based? Getting a VS2480? The converters isn't really the place to start.
 
i like that converter and i would like to record with my comp. so what else will i need?
 
An ADAT interface and a computer program like Cubase, Sonar, Audition.
 
i have mackies tracktion ntrack and reaper. what would be some recommended interfaces and what kinda of cables do i need for the adat?
 
Type 'ADAT interface' into google. You will need an ADAT optical cable to hook the converters to the computer. You will need mic cables to hook the mics to the interface.
