I've never really read anything about the ADAT format.. never really being interested until I saw ADA8000 on Behringer's website. I'm just wondering how would that thing be useful.. like can I get a soundcard that supports ADAT and that way get a cheap 8 track recording pack... and what kind of products are there for that?

Yeah, you could use the AD8000 as a front end to a DAW but, you've got a very stripped down version of a preamp there. Useful features are nonexistant on this unit. As long as your soundcard had an adat input, you could record to PC. I suggest that you save up and get a Digimax LT. It has many more useful features than the Behringer unit. Maybe even the Mackie 800R.

As for soundcards/interfaces, RME will be a good starting point. Have a look at the Digiface or Multiface. You may like the multiface better as it has analog and digital ins. If you ever got a highend pre, you could use it with the Multiface.

My suggestion may cost more in the short and long term but, worth it in comparison to the alternatives.
