So i finally figured out how to insert an exterenal outboard gear in Nuendo!

I am using my Minpdirnt Envoice channel strip with Di-mod as an insert.

Running it through S/pdif i/o.
What i wanted to be sure of, is that i never do leave the digital domain, right?
I record a vocal through the mic into the Envoice. Set it up, and the signal passes the mindprint through it's digital ouput on the Di-mod, through the spdif out to the RMe Spdif In.and record it to Nuendo!
Everything cool.
I now want to process a bit the signal that is already recorded, but want to avoid the unneccessary DA-AD conversion.
So i run it on spdif i/o?

Is that the right thing to do?

Maybe this is an extremely dumb question, but i need to be sure!

Although i am not sure that i asked you properly!

Anyway...

In theiry, yes that would work. In reality, my bet is that the comps and EQ etc... in the Mindprint are all analog which means the mindprint will convert the incoming signal (D/A), process it, and then reconvert (A/D) and send it s/pdif back to Nuendo. The real question here should be which converters do you want to do the conversion:)

Like xstatic said, if you are trying to process the tracks with something analog, you will go through the conversion. If you are using a digital reverb with spdif i/o, you won't.

I thought it was astupid question...

Thanks for the explanation!

The converters?

Well i wanted to do a check, test, which one is better, i've seen some guys here on forum do it!

I think that RME's FF800 converters are pretty good, and i dont hink that the mindprint guys would hold back in develpomnet their own converters, right?
