hey yall,

any advice or ideas on how to effeciently and cost-effectivley power/drive a set of tannoy reveal 6 monitors (or similar). im still new to the concept of active vs. passive monitors and dont want to get passive speakers and not know how to power them or worse, blow 'em out. any advice or recomendations would be really appreciated.

thanks

then buy active

or just read the specs of the speakers you are wanting to buy:
For the Tannoy's you mentioned:
--Recommended amplifier power 50 to 100 watts at 8 ohms

I used to use passive speakers with an amp, but now I prefer active speakers. It's just a lot more convenient, with the amp built in and matched to the speakers.

If you already had a good quality amp you were happy with, then you could save money with passive speakers. But if you don't have an amp and are buying into monitors fresh, then my opinion would be to go with actives.

i'm using powered reveals here... the older blue ones.... way cool IMO... the amps are optimized for the individual drivers... crossover points too... pretty much a no brainer... unless you've got a bryston sitting around doing nuthin...
