active pick ups

Are active pickups on a bass important for recording direct, or are they more a feature for live playing. I want to purchase a bass strictly for direct recording, but dont know if it is worth the extra 130$ for active pickups.

IT is worth it... Get a bass with active EMG's and you can't go wrong... Dont buy a bass with crappy pick-ups and think that you will upgrade later... Having them installed will be a big extra chunk of change...
I'll go so far as to say that the pickups are THE most important aspect of your bass sound... LIve or studio...
