I have read a gillion posts on monitors. Probably missed some- but anyways I'm looking for some Active monitors for a decent price. Under $200.? I have seen a few on the music retailer websites.

If I list a few models, can someone give me a thumbs up or down? Is this oversimplifying it? (I am recording simple hard rock with PC recording software) Basically looking to weed out the lemons:

-Edirol MA-5A
-Roland MA-8
-Stageworks LX-SW2
-Yamaha MSP-3
-Edirol MA-10D

Thanks

Yorkville YSM1p
Tannoy Reveal Active
Event 20/20 BAS
Mackie HR824
Blue bear says good things about the KRK V8's

For the cheaper side, i would go for the Yorkvilles, apparantly awesome i'm planning on picking up a set when i get the money. the Tannoys are a bit more than the yorkvilles, but a lot of people don't think they're quite as good. Mackies got raving reviews but now people are starting to hint on the fact that the bass is a bit exadurated. Apparantly the V8's don't sound very good, but that's not a bad thing because apparantly they are accurate and that is what you want in monitors. Events... eh i'm not so certain they are a contendor for me anymore. I heard they're good for hip hop, but then recently people have been saying that the midrange is a bit lacking and the bass is a bit off.

But my recomendation would be the Yorkville YSM1p. Remember listen to them before you buy them if you can. Let your ears decide, but do research before like this so your ears don't make you do something stupid.

I don't think that you'll find a pair for under $200.00

You might want to take a look at the Event site.

www.event1.com

peace....

As the spin man stated, youll be hard pressed to get a pair of actives at that price that are worth much.....

$300 bare minimum

try the Event Tr5's......

this is true, just opinions, as a re a lot of opinions around here. Just look at it as another opinion. I just like being able to see a bunch compared together. I honestly wish there was a lot more reviews of this type on all kinds of gear.

You are right though, and the good editor of that particular article even agrees (at least i gathered that much)

Quote (from the article) "Since I used my ears as the primary basis for gathering information, there’s a fair chance that you’ll disagree with some of my findings"

Everybody is different...different strokes for different folks...ok ill stop now...

If you can't afford a high end monitor, I suggest you save your money. You will end up paying for it in the long run. If you need to mix right now, get a pair on some studio headphones. Preferably sony or sennheiser.

Yes I Will Wait

Yes indeed I'll wait until I can get some real ones !

Thank you to everyone

hmmm

yeah I will have to agree 300 minimum.
But if your looking to spend more for some good monitors the (and no laughing) Behringer Truths are awsome sound for like 400 or the m-audios for like 300 are decent but watch out for the swiveling tweeters(weird! they would be better set in place.).
