I'm looking to purchase powered monitors, and am curious as to what I can get for about $500 a pair.

Thoughts, anyone?

Thanks......

I just got a pair of BX8s to replace some passive monitors (now demoted to playback duty) and so far I like them a lot. I spent all day today with my test CD and the SPL meter and there's some tweaking to be done (and an SP8S subwoofer, no doubt: there's not much bottom and I work with a bass player who likes to feel the bass whistling through his panties). If I decide they are gruesome (the BX8s, not the panties) I'll post it for all to see.

the one thing about the bx-8's which strikes me as different is that the bass port is in the back. i think the tr8's actually have a clearer bass response, although perhaps not as strong...

are you saying that because you would recommend the Yorkville YSM1-p's?

i have seen this model neither at Guitar Center nor at Manny's Music. I refuse to go back to Sam's Ass. but i'll be checking out B&H tonight... round 3 of the studio monitors shoot out!

i'll be buying a pair this weekend hopefully.

None

I am curious as to why no one recommends the Behringer Truths.

Are they that bad?

Personally, I'm leaning towards the M-Audios, but the Truths are so much less expensive.

BTW, I'm not trying to start a flame war here, just searching for the "Truth"

To my ears, the Behringer Truths don't sound very good at all.... I find they have a sagging, woofy bass, hyped high-end, and a mids-sucked-out kind of sonic characteristic... I wasn't impressed at all.

The Tannoy Reveals are nice... as are KRK V6s... I haven't heard the M-Audio ones, and the Events are decent as well, but again - one thing I don't care for with the Events is they also appear to sound like they have a dip in the mids too.

Thanks. I just needed an honest opinion on the Truths, since no one seems to carry them locally, except for mail order, which I'd rather not do. I'll check out the KRK's though.

Tonester - I haven't heard the new KRK's yet, I can't even remember the name of the series... But a buddy has heard them and says that they're pretty solid (as you would expect from KRK).

If I'm not mistaken, a pair is around $250 on the street. A Hafler (1600?) power amp is also around $250...

Know where I'm going with this? :)

Not that I'd try to talk you out of the BX8's, but I would think this to be a pretty viable alternative.

P.S. I'm also not nuts about "Truth's" although I've heard worse...

I have to tell you - my first set of Yorkvilles were defective. The company really came through for me. And my new pair are great. Id suggest the YSM1Ps

Totally, excellent support.

They quickly and thorougly reply to e-mails. The older versions developed 'hissing' issues after about a year, no problems getting them fixed.

Well, I decided on the BX8's and I'm not disappointed. I A/B'd them with the Event TR-8's and the Mackie HR624's (just for a reference point)

I listened to a variety of musical styles, including Steely Dan's song "Cousin Dupree" and Dream Theater's Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" (music more towards my side of the spectrum)

In a nutshell, I found the BX8's to have more definition, less harshness at higher volumes, better bass response, and the band sounded more like it was in the room with me than the Event's. They sounded even better when I got them home.

I know this is a subjective thing, and everyone hears differently, but I want to thank all of you that steered me to the BX8's

Now I want to remix everything I've ever done.....

What are your thoughts now?

Tonester,

Now that you've had the BX8s for a couple months, I was wondering if they've worked out well? I'm considering buying a pair also... Thanks!
