I need some good active moniters for under $400. I'm sure a pair of Yorkville's would be fine, but I'm just interested to hear some opinions on other monitor setups.

Fine indeed :). Behringer Truths and Mackie Reveals are prob my second preferred at that price point.

I just bought a pair of Samson Reveal 80a! They sound very good for me!
I tested 3 monitors:
1. Yamaha msp5 -- too crispy for me (it hurts) no fundament but they give you a good feel for the stereo pan
2. Tannoy Reveal active -- they where too "nasal" for me; english sound i suppose!
3. Samson Reveal 80a -- this ones suited best for me; nice and clear with sufficient fundament. They got a 3 way mid boost which makes them sound a bit more like the yamaha msp5!
By the way if it is important to you: they can be godam loud...

Tip: Go to a Musicstore and try some pairs yourself with an CD you are familiar with! Bevore i did it i wanted to buy the tannoys because of the good tests and reviews. But compared to the others i realized that they don't fit for me....

good luck
