I do all of my recordings in my garage, where a couple years ago i tried soundproofing it with soundboard. (it helped a little, but not much) It mainly made my room pretty dead sounding. It's also carpeted and has carpet padding, and the walls are packed with insulation.

I waswonder if there was anything i could do to make my room sound better? I think my next studio addition should be treatment rather than pres or mics or anything like that.

thanks!

You'll get much better answers in the STUDIO BUILDING AND DISPLAY forum... it's designed for questions just like this one :)

hm... well i wen to that auralex website and did the room calculator thing. THey seem to make it sound like the foam only helps echo and slapback issues. My room is pretty dead... Will this stuff help?

thanks again,
T

I misunderstood perhaps - You're actually trying to make it more lively?

Then yes, you'd be better off spending a few weeks in the SB&D forum for sure...

According to that page you get 16 linear feet per box. Just don't expect too much improvement from foam corners...

what is better than the foam corners? The ones on the walls? or constructing your own somehow?

Thanks again

Hey Ethan - just read your article on Sound on Sound. Seems to me what you need to do is advertise your stuff as 48 bit, xxx KhZ, active, dual mode concentric paradiddle dooowop, put a mains plug and a few flashing lights on it. Treble the price and it will fly off the shelves:D

You're close. I sometimes point out that MiniTraps work with both analog and digital, and Mac or PC. :D

And AC/DC as well!

Mr Winer, I have been studying your website and forums and want to thank you for putting all the information together in such a readable and courteous way. Next week I trundle off to the next big town where there is an Owens-Corning dealer to try my hand at building your bass traps.

Many thanks.
John

OK, i'm gonna get some minitraps, but i can really only afford 2 for a while. Will this not be worth it for a room that's about 20' x 20' with soundboard on all the walls and carpet??

thanks!

Two Minitraps are infinitely better than none. But in all honesty, if that's your total budget you'll get more bang for the buck by buying rigid fiberglass panels and wrapping them with fabric. MiniTraps are more than just rigid fiberglass, and they work better for sure. But for the cost of two MiniTraps you could buy two or more entire cases of rigid fiberglass.
