Looks like an good idea for small foam or rigid fiberglass panels face up in front of nearfields. Maybe even monitors on stands.. Note the thickness relative to the speaker above them. Aimed at 1/4 wavelength absorption probably???. Seems like a good idea for console or desk mounted near fields. You would have to move them back to make room for these though. I remember reading that one of the criteria for Licensing the use of the term "LEDE" in relation to a studios control room, was PROOF by means of ETC measurements, that there was no reflections from the face of the console within 20db of the direct sound from the monitors. It would seem these might help, although I'm not sure. I'm going to try it though. Note that they say the side reflections are "diffused" via wall mounted diffusers. Well, that may be for listening rooms, but for control rooms, we know better(absorbers)...don't we?
