I think there are some EQ problems in the various instruments - the track just doesn't seem to sit well somehow. Or does it?

Anyway, might be the equipment! :D

Monitored with a home stereo. Drum tracks are soundfonts played from a keyboard, although I did try to keep them as realistically played as possible. Bass is also a soundfont, but re-amped thru a 90's Peavey bass amp. Guitars are acoustics, with single-coil passive pickups going thru a little danelectro amp, and an old 60's Beltone tube amp. Miked with a Rode NT1 and no-name dynamic 57 copies.

Vocals are never final.

Baby Sometimes

Any listens are much appreciated.:D

Very unique voice...Unique it the way that Lou Reeds voice is..When you hear it you know its him..ya know. The mix is ruff..levels are a little funky..things like the shaker come in outa nowhere and appear{too loud}..Also a guitar{slide..which is cool by the way}are too loud..The drums are plodding..maybe rethink the drum part perhaps ?I like your voice and vocal approch!IMHO on the sound quality Lo Fi/demo works well on this kinda song..Good luck..hope to hear more!

The song is good but the mix isnt doing it justice yet. Theres also some performance issues.

some specifics:

The second guitar that comes in very early in the song has timing problems.

Mix is a little shy in the bass-the kick and bass could-come up or could use some eq'ing to make them sit better

Some (alot) of vocal intonation problems. kinda fits the style I guess-how much can you live with?

Acoustics dont really sound like acoustics-why not use electrics if your gonna amp em and mic em?? Not a bad sound-just curious..

shaker sounds a bit loud

the turn around around 1:48 is kinda sloppy

Like the slide work-around 2:12-I would have used more of that

The turnaround into the solo 3:21 is sloppy

Thats about it-like I said I think the song is good and I think I see what you're going for-performance wise-it could just use some tightening up.

Arrrgh...this is really bad.

The vocal is sung not just weird but really unmusicaly.
You are not hitting any in key notes here.

The mix is really bad but I can't even listen...

The song sounds alright under it all...get someone else to sing it.

Those sometimes are way all over the place...aggh.

Hm. Mr. Jake-owa. You were pretty polite about it, but I got the feeling you didn't think much of the singing. You're right about it not being very good, but I am truly delighted to piss you off that much. That really made my day!

The timing issues that Stratomaster points out are also very valid. Maybe I did post the song a bit too early in the process. You get used to hearing how it's SUPPOSED to sound, only to realize you're making it better in your head. Then you post it here, I suppose.

Mr. Devill, the drum part itself I am happy with (despite the alarming apperance of shakers). I really like the simple, plodding drum parts that John Lennon used, like on Plastic Ono Band and Double Fantasy (woman). If you think it doesn't work, that's good to know, but I do like it like that.

But the reason for using acoustics with pickups is that is all I have! Can't justify spending that much money on a guitar that needs a plug-in and wires to make a sound.

Overall some good comments that I appreciate, and thank you all for.
More tracking to do, I guess.

I was only able to listen to part of this track since my computer struggles through hi-fi streaming (which is why I can usually only listen in lo-fi) :(

Anyway, from what I heard, your vocal approach kind of reminds me of a cross between Cat Stevens and Lou Reed.

I can't make a fair assessment of the song itself since I only heard a small part. You already are aware of the eq stuff going on and the levels seemed a little out of balance on my end. The shaker seemed very loud in the mix and almost became the focal point of the song...

Interesting tune from what I could gather. Wish I couldv'e heard it all the way through!

:)

Sorry if I dissapoint but I'm nowhere near mad.

Just disturbed in the earballs a bit.

No biggie.

Cool tune.

Would be much better if you got the timing worked out. You call it 'plodding', but it's out of time too much. I know what you mean though, I like those types of tracks to, but a redo would do wonders for the tune.

Reminds me of The Guess Who :)

Nice song!
