Can anybody recommend a decent one?

Or is there such a thing as a decent one?

What have been your experiences with them?

I'm thinking about getting one and running my cheapie a/e through it.

The only one I've ever tried is the Boss AC-2, which is supposed to make your electric sound like an acoustic.

I'm sure you can guess how well it works.

Yeah

that one I've heard.

I saw Garbage one time and the guitar player had a Hamer semi-hollow and I don't know what he was running it through, but it sounded dead on acoustic. Not even piezo acoustic, just miced acoustic.

I used the boss one. Actually two of them. The earlier model and the one they have now. They both sounded like dookie to me. I have a LR Bragg x-bridge on one of my guitars and that sounds reasonably like an acoustic when you run it through an acoustic-specific preamp. Mine is the fishman platinum, I think. The stomp boxes might work for something but don't allow much flexibility in what you play.
