Do you want to use one mic for vocals and guitar? Or do you want one for the guitar and one for the vocals?

Centre - cool song. your voice sounds like someone...i can't put my finger on it...the song is cool and sounds like the tallest man on earth a little. guitar is too distant, and there's something weird going on with the EQ around the half way. Since you have mic so far back you're introducing a lot of room noise and ambient noise.

Always tomorrow - same sound issues. Did you add some reverb? it makes it sound even more distant and kinda muddy.

Friends - the other clips the guitar was pretty warm and round, though really far back. On this one it was not as nice sounding and distant...I can't say much more.

Performances - all really good, no issues there. The songs are good.

I'd recommend at least one mic on vocals and one on the guitar. you can still play it all at once to get the energy and performance you want without all the noise and distance.

I appreciate all of the feedback! I am recording strictly off of a built in condenser mic included with my tascam hand held recorder. I have a steinberg interface but only one dynamic mic. I have a hard time picking up both my guitar and vocals. I'll have to pick up a condenser mic?? I would like to utilize my interface more. I did not use it for any of these tracks. Thanks again for all of the advice!

If your gonna use one mic I'd put it closer to the voice and keep the guitars back.

With one dynamic you can do the guitar and vocals separate and probably get some nice recordings.

You think so? I have a hard time with input and output controls. I am not good at setting the levels right to achieve a good enough input level. I can barely get a signal....I use a steinberg audio interface. I have given up on that idea and have been using my hand held instead.... ARRRGH....

what do you mean trouble with input and output? using the interface, you should just be able to plug the mic in and turn the volume on the interface up.

Dynamics don't have ton of volume when you get further away...i.e. the voice will be super high when the guitar is still pretty low. Is that what you mean by input/output problems?

If you wanna do it that way (one mic), a LDC might be perfect. MXL v67g is about $80 (i think), and that should be great for pickup up the guitar and vocals at once and get a really nice sound. just put it about 6 inches from your mouth, and angle it down about 45 degrees and you should be able to get a really nice blend of vocals and guitar.

But, what I'd recommend is get the MXL and set it up straight on for vocals, and put the dynamic around the 12th fret of the guitar, then you can mix them separately and add different EQ etc. And you can record both at once.

Yes, my vocals are a bit louder than the guitar. I use adobe audition and I may have to work with the input on the program to get the best possible feed.... I am really trying to work out the kinks. Thanks for the advice, I will have to look into getting the mic you suggested.:p
