Hey everybody,

I am interested in buying a bass this summer but i havn't had a chance to do a lot of research yet. I am just wondering if an acoustic bass (with a plug in) can be recorded with as much success as an electric bass. Is there an obvous difference in tone between the two? Basically i want a bass that i can record with but i want to play live with it as well. The acoustic bass is really appealing to me becuase an amp is not required. I could just bring it to a camp fire to jam. Thanks for the help.

This question has been answered in the last few days. A least tried to do a search, huh?

Yes, there is a very big difference in tone between the two. In addition, the only acoustic basses I have heard which actually sound good are a few custom instruments (no, not any that I have built) and the Taylor acoustic bass, designed by Steve Kline. I am pretty sure Taylor is not even making that instrument any more, which is a shame.

sorry did n't even think to do a serach... it was late!

Buy an electric. WAYYYYYY more versatile. And if you're like most everyone else, you're spending 99% of your time away from a camp fire.

Acoustic Basses are really fun for playing around the campfire and etc... but if you want a really nice versatile bass to record with... get a Fender Americain Jazz Bass.
