i have been recently experimenting with different stereo micing techniques at college. my fav seems to be the blumlein. at the moment my home setup is pretty basic and my only mic is a samson c03 which sounds crap compared to the akg 4x14s we use at college. i want to invest in a pair of new mics where i can use in stereo. any suggestions. my price range is up to £200

cheers

I've gotten fairly good results from a set of AKG C1000s's - relatively bright, but they seem to get on well with my acoustic (a Martin MC-16GTE).

omnis

Hi,

I like the Naiant omnis on my Jecklin Disk. Sounds really good on acoustic guitar.

I also like to mic in real close with dynamic omnis. One inch or less. My preference, Realistic 1070b.

For a cardiod condenser like over the shoulder I like my Audio Technica Pro 37 for it's detailed high end.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

It is not reasonable to make equipment decisions by comparing a single budget SD used in a home setting to a blumlien pair of much more expensive mics recorded in a semi-professional facility with a better room and higher quality preamps. What did you expect?
