Acoustic guitar mics

The SM81 is a great acoustic guitar mic for the money, but it'll take a bit more than $200 to buy a new one. The suggestion to get a used one is great! You can also check out the Marshall MXL 603 or 604. These mics will cost you about $90.00 at most. I have used them on a number of acoustic guitar recordings and have had great results with them. They fit the budget while you are saving up for a high end mic. My favorite acoustic guitar mic was the old Neumann KM54... i had a pair of them at my old studio. Very nice mics! Schoeps and DPA also make a great mic for acoustic guitar, but if you do a bit of research, you will find dozens that will get the job done well. Good luck!!

if i was recording acoustic guitar i would use a microphone like a se 2200a this is about $250 but the standard 2200 is alot cheaper if you want a more quality microphone i would go for the se x1 there is a amazing deal on digital village at the moment but i don not know if they will ship to america
remeber to move the microphone around to get the right sound even if you have a cheap condenser microhpone you can make it sound like a very high end microphone just from abit of movement

The SE2200A is over $400 down here in Australia. It's a lovely mic but outside the OP's price range.

In any case, despite having a number of LDC mics in my kit, I keep coming back to small diaphram condensers for acoustic guitar. With careful placement (and a small mic is easier to position) I prefer the sound I get.

An SE1A is a mic I've used quite often with very good results--and, online at least, it's right in the middle of your price range. Or, if you want to buy Australian and can go slightly higher, the Rode NT5 also does an excellent job on acoustic guitar.

Both above are nice versatile mics with a lot of uses beyond guitar too.
