Acoustic guitar, mic on the inside?

I have been considering trying a very small AT condenser mic that would go inside my acoustic (Guild D-50), not a pickup, a mic.

I saw someone on PBS using one, it sounded promising.

Just thought I would see if anyone had tried this, and how well it worked for recording.

I've used a couple Baggs setups that place a tiny mic in the guitar. Those sound very similar live to putting a mic in front of the guitar, so I guess it would work ok for recording. I would think though that a mic external to the guitar that you could change placement on for different sounds would ultimately be better. All the internal mic systems I've seen are more for the convenience live of getting a miked sound as opposed to the sound of an acoustic pickup, and still have the freedom to move around the stage while playing.

They have a tiny AT condenser mic at Best Buy for about $25.00, it uses a watch type battery.

I think I may get it as an experiment, just for fun. I was thinking that a mic on the inside of the guitar would also have less bleed through when playing and singing at the same time, since the guitar body would act as isolation.

Sounds like a fun thing to try, I'm all excited!!

If I do it I'll keep you posted.

Hate to bring you down... but I think you'll be sorely dissapointed by the sound of a single mike inside the guitar. Most products that I've seen combine a traditional coil pickup in addition to the internal mic. Without anything to pick up the higher frequencies of the strings you'll be recording a lot banging and booming, and not a lot else. I'd avoid the pickup/mike combination in the studio. There is so much that can be done with proper mic placement that you're really limiting your options. But as a stage combination, it can give you a reasonable sound, with a lot more flexability then external mikng

I think maybe I'll forget it and get myself a new external mic.

I was thinking Marshall 603, good idea for acoustic?
