Acoustic foam dealer

Hey guys i have been looking for some acoustic foam for my tracking/ mix room. My bedroom has homemade bass traps that work pretty damn well for bein free and home made. I guess the goal is to hear through speakers what i hear through monitering headphones and thats what i get. Anyway i saw a site cqlled the foam factory and they sell acoustic foam at amazing prices. I just need something to deaden echos in my room and i dont wanna pay a hell of alot. They price about 40 for 1 inch thick And 60 for 2 inch thick packs of i think 48 pieces. Good buy? I dont need anything super high quality just something to do its job well
 
Foam is not a good buy. Check the aoustic specifications. It will absorb higher frequencies, leaving you with accentuated problems with mid and lower frequencies. All you will have done is spend money and made it sound worse - and you may have thought you were saving money.

You have made bass traps. Having traps in all the corners (wall-wall and wall-ceiling) and at the first reflection points will be a good start. Acoustic measurement of your room will help you identify what problems you are trsing to solve to get that accurate, neutral sound. The cheapest answer will be more DIY bass traps.
 
I hear that all the time... Not the answerr i was looking for. Im not a pro by any means and im not looking for pro. Ppl wouldnt buy foam if it didnt help with some aspects of sound. I have good bass controll in my room and im very happy with it so all im looking for is some wall treatment that helps some but also i love the look of it lol. I hear through all speakers in all sorts of rooms what i hear when im mixing and that means to me i have tackled the bass problems. Just lookin for some visual and to kill some slap and flutter.
 
The problem with foam is it doesn't do the job well. People buy foam because they are looking for the cheapest solution, only to find out that foam is a waste of money and effort.

It will suck all the highs out of the room and not much else.

You're better off building some broadband absorbers with Knauf or OC and covering them with fabric.

Then why do pro studios use it? I thin people scare other people into beleiving its a waste in this fourum. I know a guy who runs a studio and ya hes got it in his mix an live rooms. Argue with pros?
 
Do whatever you want.

Afterwards you can upgrade to something that actually works.

Buy cheap = buy twice.

Read the link I posted. Use the reverb calculator to figure out the RT60 time for your room. Ideally you want to get to below a half-second decay time across the audible spectrum.

Cymbals, to use one example, only generate higher frequencies and as acoustic foam is ideal for absorbing high frequencies, bingo!

Ask him. In his control room I would expect that the acoustician started with a lot of trapping and then afterwards, in addressing specific remaining problems will have specified acoustic foam.

No im just saying ppl just tell u ur stupid as soon as u bring up foam. And i my room i have started with bass traps. Got good results. Again im really not lookin for studio quality im very happy with where im at now. I dont wanna do a hell of alot of work or spend a hell of alot. I just want the basic bass traps and reflections delt with
 
Like was stated, you will be better off using broadband absorbers to control reflections than you will with foam. No one is arguing. Just giving truth. Your question was "good buy?". Your answer was no.

That being said, without test results for the product you are inquiring about, nobody can tell if it is a good buy or not anyway. Based upon the effectiveness of expensive foam, I would go with a bigger no with cheap foam.

Btw, I use foam above my drum overheads.
 
Lookin into some broadband absorbers and theyre expensive! Im a highschool student hardly making any money. I just need something. I dont have hundreds to spend and i wont for a very long time. I need some kind of treatment to go with my bass traps. Thank u for ur qnswers evetyone but i already know broadband absorbors are better but i dont have that kind of money or time to build my own right now.
 
You could seriously just get 6 2'X4' rock wool slabs for $70, spray adhesive cloth to them, tack em up on the wall and worry about building frames later. I have heard bad things about the specs of economy foam. I'd hate to see anyone waste money. Auralex is expensive. I would sooner hang moving blankets than trust foam priced that low. Just my 2c.
 
By the way, I love how the site describes NRC and STC ratings yet does not bother to post the results for each frequency. Only the average. And that's not very good anyway. Just an observation.........
 
The small amount that I do use is Auralex. Obviously the most widely known. As far as what the best manufacturer of foam is, IDK.
 
What if i buy acoustimac panels? Anygood? 25 a piece sounds
reasonable

I only ask because i have a large room and dont wanna spend 24 bucks a panel to be spaced around the room. So if i buy foam i can get a larger coverage but still have some panels to hang around
 
Sure it will work to some degree. You can always use the foam in the future for shipping gear. lol! Sorry man, I'll stop poking. I just learned the hard way. Spending money on Auralex ended up being a wast of time for my room. I just gave some away.
