Ok I moved this thread because of it being wasted by the infamous "Mystery records".

Anyway this is an acoustic number with some nice percussion which gives it a kind of african flavour.

Song "BLOODSHOT"

Any comments from anyone (expect mystery) would be greatly apreciated.

BLOODSHOT
Very nice song and vocals. Occasional plosives and sibilance but it sounds good. I like the bongo's sound but the ac gtr is fighting with its rhythm - they're just not tightly in sync. Fingerpicked guitar is pretty pitchy but would have a good sonority with just a little compression, maybe with a multiband.

Vocal has a lot of potential with a tighter accompaniment.

I totally agree with you Tim.
Im sure its the amount of noise in the recordings thats making the vocals be sybelynt at times (obviously something to do with my EQing also). Yeah all of the takes were like first takes so the rythym isnt so tight, but i have grown used to that and it adds a roughness to it that adds character. (or am i loosing my mind!)

Cooool tune Ecktronic!! Wow, I am so glad to be able to listen to you guys tunes again!!

Man this has got such a 70's flavour to it, brought in with the bongos, and harmonies!! And ya all know I'm an ol 70's gal!!

I love the lyrics on this too Ecktronic. And when you hit those high notes, they take on a natural reverb of their own. It gives me goosebumps. I like goosebumps! :D

The bongos do seem to dominate to the point of putting the guitar to the back of the mix to much. Have you thought of a mandolin, or violin, or pan flute added in parts? Not sure if you even want ot add, just a thought as I listen for the 10th time!! :D

I love this song.

Well Ektronic, I am still listening to your song. Very good song. It must be addictive. Very good song. I am repeating myself. Oh well it goes along with the listen times of your song. :D

Between the iris and my soul.....wow, that is very imaginative.

Thanks true-eurt. Its a pity but BLOODSHOT and STIRLING arent my songs! :( They are my mates songs who i am mixing them for him. Yeah both of the tracks are real addictive. I have listened to them loads also and thats after listening to them loads at mixing and mastering!!
My mate was thinking about adding something extra in but im not sure we have the instruments for that and MIDI is a big no no for this naturalish sound.
Yeah you might be right that the mini djembe & guitar body rythym part might be a little loud. But it might work better if it was in time i suppose.
The two songs are all going to be re-tracked and remixed so i will take all this feedbcak into consideration from yous all.
Thank you. :)

Its an inspired performance.

I would have mic'ed the bottom of the conga along with the top.

If you did mic the bottom, turn it up a bit, so theres some bass happening.

Dont care for the di acoustic too much, its too clunky, and lacks depth.

The singer is off key, and off time in spots.

The vocals could be fattened up a tad, or perhaps trimmed out a tad in the presence area.

Cheers for the listen. Im gobsmacked that you think thats a direct acoustic!! It was miced up with a real cheap dynamic mic in the guys bedroom.
Yeah the percussion definetly could do with some lo end.

Equipment: Boss BR1180 home recorder
Cheap shity dynamic mic
Transfered into computer using guitar cable in real time!!!

I like the whole presence and air sound of the vocals but i hear what you are saying about fattening them up. Could be a mic issue though.
Thanks Finster.

Haha! well i guess thats says something about the guitars tone huh?

I like the guitar tone. Although it could sound better with proper mics and decent pre amps.
Thinking about setting up a proper studio soon. :D so should have some proper mics and equipment to work with to get better results.

Awesome vibe, I dig.

I could live with it pretty much as-is except for the congas being a bit off timing-wise.

Yeah the whole performance was first takes and alot of it is out of time and out of tune, but this is just a rough track to hear what it would be like. Looking forward to re doing it.
Cheers for the listen tvanveen.

I can't listen until I get home, there are no speakers on this here computer. I just wanted to say how much I love the word "Gobsmacked".

The Urban dictionary has gobsmacked as:

1. gobsmacked =

being totally speachless.unable to think of anything to say.
i was gobsmacked when i won the lotto

2.gobsmack =

To be completely dumbfounded or shocked. That I know of, its origins are Irish.

I have know idea what a "gob" is or why it is common practice to smack somebody with one when they are shocked.

It seems like a rude thing to do, though.
"Well, I'll be gobsmacked!" exclaimed the taxi driver, as he watched two sworn enemies hug.

Just thought you might be interested since you like the word so much! :)

Cool! Thanx True...Might use it as a title for a CD. Don't anybody dare name their CD or band "GOBSMACKED"...It's mine, I tell you....MINE!!!

sweet tune man...very laid back feel to it...im with Xfin on this one...that acoustic seems to distort/buzz every now and then...over all..the tune sounds good to my ears..nice job

Like the tune alot. Something has to be done with the congas, though. Even if the playing was tight, which it isn't, the conga part itself just doesn't sit right. I like the vibe of the vocal and even the overall sound, except for the "essing", either too much compression or too much highs. But this is a cool song with a great vibe...Somehow reminds me of "Going to California".

same as above
the congas are such that they take away from the song, if you don't want to fix em, i'd axe em.

sssssssssssssss

bassically a good song, but you're just trying to hard
less is more here i think.
(production and arrangement wise)

Interesting and compelling mix of feels. The guitar sounds a little bit thinner than the percussion part. The Vox have some lossiness sound to them; could be encoding artifact, perhaps. There is a slight disconnect in the rhytmic sync between the guitar and percussion. It's minor, but enough for me to think that maybe the groove would sync up and get nice and loose the way an African groove should be if the sog were performed just a little bit slower. There's a little "hurryup" thing going on. Minor details. Anyway, I like the voice a lot, and sone is really neat. My mind was putting in a big Lion-Kingesque booming low drum every 8th downbeat... Might could be fun.. :) :) Nice piece!

Thanks all for the listen. As i said this is just a rough version so im gonna re-track and remix. I did process the vocals quite alot as i wanted a real sweet airy soft sound, but the background noise (as RAMI said) was brought out from compression and hi end boosting.
If the percussion (mini djembe and guitar body) were in time with the guitar then maybe they would sit better, but still could do with a bit of work.
Cheers. :)
