Acid deals - online vs. Guitar Satan

Here's a couple of questions for you Sonic Foundry freaks. Guitar Center is selling Acid Pro 4.0 for $99 (150 - 25 instant rebate and -25 mail in rebate) until the end of this month. Meanwhile, Musicians friend is selling a bundle for $150 that includes Acid 4.0 Pro, Sound Forge Studio 6.0, and Classic 8 Pack.

I already have Sound Forge 5, and have not seen a good reason to upgrade. But what the hell is "Classic 8 Pack"? There is no mention of it at all on Sonic Foundries site, and the Musicians Friend staff don't have a clue what it is. If it is plug-ins, are they any different than the 20 plugs that I already received with Sound Forge 5.0?

Also, the Guitar Center salesman said I might be better off just upgrading my Sonar 2.0 to 2.2, which he says "does everything Acid 4.0 does". I'm not convinced, I've heard that the Acid user interface is much better. I think I would like to install Acid on my laptop and keep Sonar on my studio PC.

Any comments?

Naw man, they are loops. Old loops. Not really anything great.

Not a big deal, ACIDPlanet gives these 8-packs away for free all the time - the "classic 8 packs" are some of the first ones.
Basically, 8 loops constructed into a song, so the beginner can get a feel for how to do it. So. um, you get a few loops.

Oh, and as far as Sonar goes: Well, it does technically do everything ACID does (at first glance) but I still use ACID over Sonar for almost everything (I have both). Sonar doesn't hold a candle to ACID when it comes to ease of use and film/video scoring, IMHO. ACID has some special features for scoring to picture that I haven't been able to find in Sonar. I do like Sonar GUI for MIDI stuff over ACID, and before some of the ACID 4 updates were available, I would even say that the MIDI was more stable with Sonar. But SF seems to have solved the problem - MIDI sequencing would crash ACID 4 at first on my machine. One of the update patches fixed the problem.

I bought my 4.0 at GC for $150, it included 5 or 6 old loop disks, PLUS the classic 8-pack, a collection of their first 50 freebie collections. They were right in the box, I'm guessing they're still included at the new lower price.

Rusty at the Roseville store will set you right up, and explain whatever you need to know. Dunno about Southfield...

And Soundforge 5.0 is the full version. Soundforge Studio 6.0 is the $50 lite version, so that would actually be a downgrade IMO.
