I think I have'nt posted some music for a year.

I'm finshing up an album of a girls choir that I am arranging producing and engineering.

I'm not particualy fond of this albums material.
I have no say on the choice of songs or the vocal production but this song is one of the better ones.

It's an old traditional simple Yemenite song that I rearranged to fit a bit more of a modern sound.

I made the mistake of mixing this a bit to late at night and when I woke up and heard it again this mornning
I found a few things I would have been happier had I done them differently......can you ever close a mix ?!?!?

Would be glad to hear remarks of any kind.

The file name is Dror.mp3 (about 2.76M)

Hey, cool. I liked the choral parts you used in the compression/reverb page, glad to hear a whole song using them...

Vocals and bass seem mismatched somehow. Are there any "restrictions" on phasing or chorusing the choir? I think a slow swirling "forest" of sound would be pretty cool...

Hey, Shailat, to figure out what's appropriate here, can you translate the words, or give us the gist of the message? Dig it.

1:46 sounds cool. The lead guitar, IMHO, detracts from the song. I need a doughnut.

Ed - Try again. Diskwise.com is flaky. One day it works one day it doesn't.

Kelly - Thanks for listening.
I cant play around much with the vocals.
Their vocal couch insists in producing the vocals and making bad decisions by herself as well as taking precious mixing time (we are on a budget) to do it.

The Bass - I wanted a punchy sound to support the vocals as they are alone on top of the bass and the bass is the only supporting groove, as well. It's sort of
a drum-bass part.

The lead guitar - I love it !. It's so western yet middle eastern at the same time.
Thanks for taking the time to listen.

I'll have to look for a good translation.

Sorry Moshe, the download arrow just produces a .html download called "home".

I have tried every button on their to download and it just won't do it.

Let me know when you have a more, er, reliable place. Maybe there is space on the the shailat2002 site? I really want to hear it.

Hey Ed, I had the same problem. Right click and choose "save as".

Overall, a great recording (no surprise here). I don't know why, but I wasn't fond of the reverb on the snare. The stereo image on the choir was impressive even at 128kbps. Was it just 2 mics? How'd you position 'em?

Pglewis,
Thanks for listening.
The reverb on the snare is a room and then through a
hall.
I wanted to power ( the impact of the strike) on the snare so I started with a room and then later I ran it through a hall to make it decay nicely

I used a single mic the AKG Solidtube, and overdubbed
them in 3-4 groups, in a half a circle around the mic.
Not only for more control but also I had only 10 headphones :)

I'm a lttle stunned by this.
A choral chant with guitar solo.
A hauntingly beautiful song indeed......
I asked myself if it was one overdubbed girl or a choir, before I read the full description....

This is theatre-quality sound.
Clear and full bodied with good separation and modulation, great presence .

EQ perfect.

Modulation, dynamics and clarity are excellent thoughout.

Excellent.

Course I would've played the solo a little different hehe.

I thought this was beautiful. It makes me appreciate how far I have to go in my own productions. Really nice work.

Thanks for giving it a listen. Both of you.

Roland Now I'm curious....your solo would be more like....|??///

Most excellent Shailat! Now if you could just get rid of the dimwit choir director so you could produce this the way you want!!! :)

I was just about to kick her ass out the door but then realized she was holding the check book in her hands...............
I'm so corupt these days ....... I'll do anything for money.

Who doesn't? :) An appreciation for what you and I do is not shared mostly by those who hold the checkbook's!

You either go broke doing it the way you like (or trying to improve your craft, the sonusman way....:() or you kiss butt and at least stay in the mix humoring others and make a few bucks in doing so. I have nothing but respect for someone choosing either.

Keep your visions alive my friend! Work at least on one project a year that will net you little just for the sake of the art it will produce.

man,

the vocal sound makes me want to fall over. I love it that much.

The lone bass at the beginning was choking me. I had to take a deep breath. It sat nicely in the mix though.

I also liked the guitar and especially the reverb. I guess I should call you the master of reverb.

Can I ask how you got the song into the digital domain? i.e what converters did you use?

also, what reverb did you use.

The mix was great, but I guess thats not really a compliment since you do this everyday. It sounded professional though.

Wow, Absolutely stunning. Who are these people and what are they recording for?
Did you play all the music? Do they travel with a band that you recorded?
How long did this take? How many girls recorded?

I'm just curious how big a deal this was.. Of course the mix sounds great to me.

Macle - Thanks. I heard your song the other day - fingersmall..
Nice work.

Cyan Jaguar - I'm not sure which guitar you mean there are two
+ a solo. The converters were a "Tripledat" from "Creamware".
And compliments are always nice.

Shana - This is a choir of girls aged 15-18 about 25 girls. They are completing a CD for comercial use.
I didnt play all the music just the keyboards and synth's on the CD. The rest is other musicians.
They dont travel with a band. They use a playback.
There is some time invested in the recording but with in a limit.
