I know this is a very stupid question(s) but i'm completely illiterate with Macs.

Ok so, i got the audiophile 2496 in my PC right now but im trying to get a PowerMac G4...will this 2496 fit in the PCI slots of the Powermac?

And also, i would like to know what it takes to add an additional hard drive and RAM to the Powermac system...? like do i have to go through setups to install a hardrive or is it like plug and play? And, what type of RAM does powermacs use? DDR? SD?

Are u sure its a G4? If it is, then yes since IIRC those still had PCI. All the G5s available now (G4 desktops went out of production a while ago) only have PCI express so for those, the answer is no

Yea..i meant G4. i found a G4 for $200 CDN. 350mhz CPU though. do u think the speed is equivalent to Intel ones? then it's really slow.

So for the G4, the audiophile 2496 will work right? for sure?

Are the POWER SUPPLIES used in the G4's same as normal PC POWER SUPPLIES??

what kind of audio processing can you do with a 350mhz processor?

lol, seriously.

My cell phone has more muscle than that

LOL... :D

OTOH though, i have seen studios running G4's on 733mhz or so. Will 733mhz be a big jump from 350? well kind of obvious..but i want to run Logic on it.

I used to have a G4 400 mhz and I would get a decent track count out of Cubase VST 5. I think 20 or so tracks, verbs, delays, EQ's. But I'll tell you the newer stuff (cubase) does not run nearly as well IMO.

As for logic, it is made for mac now so it does run a little more smoothly I find, but I've only used Logic Express so my experience is limited.

I think the 350 will work, I do find that the 350 mac is faster than a 350 PC. Just don't expect anything stellar that's for sure.

Cool..thanks lomky.

I'll see what i can get. I might buy a dual 867 or around there. but too bad its too hard to find G4's nowadays in stores as used or new.

I'm running a G4 1Gig with a gig of RAM, Cubase SL runs well. It does not run as well as VST on the same machine however. It has just about come to the end of the line for it though, until the G5 intel desktop comes out.

I wouldn't expect great performance with Logic with anything less than 1 GB if you plan on using its ridiculous amounts of soft synths plus audio and plugin effects.
