until now my domain was a restoration, so I'm to build my small studio to make a decent demos for small bands in my town.
I 've a analog mixer (Soundcraft delta 200) and I want to mix in analog but using a multitrack digital (da 38 tascam or Alesis adat).
after that I want to make a mixdown to obtain a two tracks stereo 16 bit product. I want to send this onto my computer to final details and sweeting with soun forge 5.0 and DSP/FX, after I gonna to write in my standalone tascam CD-rw700.
So I'll need AD/DA converters?
my tracks will suffer any modification if I converted to 24 bit to storage?

Welcome Nostromo,

If I understand your question correctly the simple answer is no, you do not need converters, that is what the Alesis Adat will do for you. It has a AI-1 AES/EBU and S/PDIF Digital Interface with a Sample Rate Converter that allows you to take ADAT tracks and digitally transfer them to and from other digital recording equipment, such as hard disk recorders, CDs, DATs, and digital effects devices. It is however only 16 bit. If you don't already own one you may be better off investing in a better soundcard that can record in 24 bit. Also I believe you dither down to 16 bit before you burn your cd but maybe someone else can comment more about that for you.

using a anolog mixer to mix , standalone clocking/AD conv. to transfere {St. mix} comp. or dat would be nice..As for a need..I would work with your rig first and then make the choice if a something like a Ap. Rossetta or a Lucent is gonna be a big enough jump..So many things to buy when you are starting out ..mics,pres, effects,wireing/snake, monotoring and down to mic stands..It never seems to end ..LOL...Good luck

it's true

thanks don for you comments.
you rigth, this bussines is a kind of fever forever, you never end and nothing i'ts enough done.
tell me, why you would using rosetta?
thanks

Well Im in the same boat as you..I'm building a smalll studio and mixing analog to Dat/CDR/CPU , thats the one{Appogee Rosetta} in my research that looks like my best bet..About $700.00 or so..Lucent is about $600.00 ,it looks good also but doesn't seem to have the features ..

Don

I'm looking at the Rosetta and the Lucid too. I have a Genx6 that I'm clocking my system with and I'm REAL happy with that so I've been leaning towards the Lucid, but the Apogee......

The Appogee is supposedly "clearer/transparent" and of better build quality..Now theses arn't my opinions theses are the opinions of all of the "pro" guys that I talk to..As a player on sessions Appogee's are the most common I've seen{logig says theres a reason}..They have some nice features like soft limit etc....Well Im off to Jackson Mississippi{2weeks for work}:(..Good luck guys..Talk soon
