Aardvark Q10, manipulating the frequency

After exhausting a few other options I'm going to return to a Q10 for many reasons. Though they're sort of support-less (other than a few recent webgroups) the price, the SPDIF and MIDI, decent pre's, inserts, I/O capabilies, and PCI stability (some of the time) was enough to convince me to sit on one for awhile.

But I've been reading all the Aardvark posts just to educate myself, and I've come across something that sort of worried me. A user remarked that Q10's have been known to cut high frequencies , and I even heard it cut lower frequencies. That stuck with me because when I posted an mp3 for mixing and editing advice, the feedback I got was that the song lacked both high (nothing above 18k) and low end

So my question, is it possible for either the pre-amps or the A/D converters to actually be compromising the signal? Does anyone have enough knowledge on the makeup of the Q10 or simply the knowledge to confirm or disconfirn if this would be electronically possible?

I own a pair of Q10, and do not notice what you mention.

They are indeed quite support-less, and no new drivers. Ever.
If you have WinXP and service pack 2, be prepared for (likely) problems. In my particular situation and hardware, SP2 was the proved-positive cause of my Q10 problems. SP1 is fine.

Knowing all the above, buy a Q10 if you can steal it. Otherwise, it is not worth it, because it is entirely throw-away technology.

I run http://asg.hopto.org and I've never noticed any cutoff... usually it's the mic that messes with that as most drop off fast at 18khz ... except dynamics which drop off at around 15khz... I recorded a DV feature movie last year and highend reproduction was great ...especially because I used a $600 ME66K6 instead of something like my cheaper $200 Rode NT1s.

but... yeah it's getting old... I moved over tio linux and bought an Edirol FA-66... which though smaller, is quieter and has limiters... and is firewire... I'm going to try to get the Q10 installed in ReactOS so it can be used as a standalone preamp....

I've been using a couple of Q10's for several years and haven't seen any frequency problems.

One thing I'll warn you about. If you're using XP, make sure you disable all the cute little clicks, chimes, whatever in XP that make a sound when you mouse click outside of Aardvark or Sonar (in my case). Turn off all the sounds Windows generates. For whatever reason, it tends to reset your sample rate on the Aardvark screen from say 44.1 to another sample rate. The result is an EXTREME white noise level into your monitors. This can really do a number on your tweeters. I never experienced this with a single Q10 using Win 98SE (yipes) but see it with XP and dual Q10's. The first time this happened I thought the band (with amplified headphones on) was gonna lynch me.
