I am planing on purchasing 2 Aardvark q10s for my project studio. I have been trying to understand all the I/O jacks that get hooked up.

Question 1)
How do the TRS jacks work, are they live or for mixdown or both?
I do understand that they do have the send and receive on the same jack so a y-cable is needed.

Question 2)
How would you use a stereo effect, since TRS jacks are mono?

Question 3)
When monitoring on the q10s using multilple q10s. do you monitor on the first unit (all 16 channels assigned to unit one)
OR do you have to use both units to monitor sent to a mixing board.

Thanks,

TRS jax

1. The can be used for both. If you want to make your own insert cables check out this link: http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/jan02/articles/faq0102.asp
You can click on the graphic at the bottom right to get an exploded view.
2. To use a stereo effect you could input a single signal from the insert jack of the mixer (plug the cable only part of the way in until the "send" portion connects) to the input of the effect. Then take the stereo returns of the effect back into a return channel of your mixer or 2 unused inputs. To take a stereo signal from a channel you'd have to use 2 of the sends, one for the left and one for the right to the input of the effect then take the returns as mentioned above.
3. I'll let someone else answer this, I'm not familiar enough with it.

Good answers, Mike.

For #3- You can only hook up you monitors to one pair of outputs either on the Q10 or your mixer. Either way you will need to route whatever you want to hear to the outputs that the monitors are attached to. This would be done in your software and mixer if you use one.
