Ok so I just ordered an Aardvark q10. I read a lot of reviews and it seems like a nice box, so I bought it. I get it from MidiStore.com for only $739 shipped. Seeing as they are out in Washington State or something like that, I knew I would be waiting a while to get it. So it finally arrives and I rip my rack apart to put it in. I had to install some new rack rails and remove my homemade ones and a behringer 2642a mixer. I then installed the Q10, my Alesis ra300 amp and a headphone amp. I booted my computer and follow the instructions for driver installation.

Nothing happens. I then decide to read the directions, wow turns out I did everything right. I then decide that since I previously had a Sblive in there that it could be the culprit. So I back all my important stuff to my new 80 gig 7200 rpm drive, with 8 meg cache, in about 10 minutes. I format and an hour later have it ready and try again. WELL I AM PISSED NOW. So I have to wait until the next day to call.

I call the next day at 9:30 am. I get a nice receptionist, yes a live person. I ask for tech support and she says they don't open for an hour. So I go and get some coffee and breakfast. I get done and call. I call back and get a guy who is really cool and nice. He has me switch the cable and try some crazy things, all with no luck.

He then tells me that I can just send it back to them at Aardvark and they would mail me a new one that has been tested. Anyway, it is not like this was amazing service or anything, but when I don't have to go through some computerized system and actually get real people who are very helpful, I have to compliment that.

So in conclusion, I would like to say that the people at Aardvark were very nice and helpful and to me that says something for the company. You know what, I got the same treatment from Sennheiser too.

Its nice to know that some companies out there aren't just in it solely for the money, and somewhat care about the consumer enough to give them good service when something goes wrong.

Well, they're probably making up for the driver support mess they created.

If you do your research, you will discover that Aardvark users were left out in the cold for clsoe to a year when it came to working WDM drivers for their product.

I have read in other forums there are still bugs as well.

they are nice people, but if you owned one of their cards in " the good ol days" you were bummed as hell when win2k came out

I dont think they have any coders on staff, so I waited more than a year for drivers then ditched it

I bought a Q-10 a few months ago, so I missed the whole "drivers taking forever to be released" issue. I tweeked my new DAW to give me max performance but every once in a while I would get either audio dropout while recording, or my q-10 would seem to go to sleep, where I could hear the audio inputs working but was not getting any signal.

I hate dealing with customer service, but I had to rely on it as a last effort to make my system totally bug free. I e-mailed them with my problem and within an hour I had a return e-mail with the solution. Within an hour...that is pretty impressive.

For those who care to know: Turns out that even though they state in the Q-10 manual that the Q-10 functions perfectly with SB's and other consumer grade sound cards, they really don't. My cousin uses two of their 24/96 units and he had to disable his sound card too for the same reason. I didn't need the SB to be active anyways but it would have been nice to know that up front so I wouldn't have wasted so much time looking at other possible causes. Anyhow, this is an issue with Aardvarks manual and not with their tech support. I give 'em two thumbs up.

Now my system is rocking the house, error free for over a month and a half. YES!

yeah I had to wait a while on the drivers as well but, I'm not sour about it.

My Q10 sounds *great* and has always worked perfectly for me, once the drivers were right.

there support is and has always been excellent, I don't think they are "making up for" anything. they are a small company with good people on staff.

as it should be.

This is not exactly on the thread, however.......
Finally--Some Aardvark users! I've posted in a couple of other areas with minimal (although friendly and good responses) about Aardvark stuff. (Nobody in the Newbies category responded at all.)
Anyway, I've been looking into the 2496 for some acoustic recording. (6-string/12 string guitars, banjo, dulcimer, autoharp, vocals--folkie type stuff). I was hoping I could get some comments--good and bad, if any--about it. Most of what I hear is good, but not much from real users. Most of the reviews I've read are from music stores trying to sell me one.
Some specs (please don't laugh too loud) P-3 by Gateway with, apparently, an integrated soundcard (can't find an input of any sort!). Sure SM58 and Audiotechnica mics, acoustic instuments with piezo pickups.
I'm just starting with this digital thing and would like to record some stuff I've written. Also play with the sound (can I make a dulcimer sound like bagpipes? And why would I want to?)
Any advice/info from the group would be a help.

I have 4 Direct Pro 24/96's and they work flawlessly. Above all, they sound better than anything else I have heard. I have been singing Aardvark's praises on this forum for a long time! Hey Beezoboy, I will be interested to hear what exactly was wrong with the card you got, if anything.

Thanks for the info. I'm new to this forum, so I beg your indulgence. I plan to keep track from now on.
