Hi

I am in the initial stages of setting up a home PC studio and was considering forking out for Aardvark Direct Pro 2496. It seems to be what I'm looking for but I have a few questions, hopefully someone might have some experience with this gear:

1. Is the sound card itself OK for handling games and other normal sound applications?

2. Can I plug a turntable into the 2496 and capture a song from a vinyl LP, then burn to CD?
(The high point of my music career was a song on a compilation album years ago.. and now I want to transfer it to CD)

3. Does anyone know if it is compatible with Med SoundStudio?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
Glen

Glen,

I would avoid that card. The company is out of business and the drivers got flakey right around windows XP sp1. It is a nice card and will do all you are asking of it, but you could run into problems getting it installed and finding drivers.

For your career highlight, head to a local recording studio and find someone to do it if you want it to sound great.

Any audio interface will be able to do what you want, it is just a matter of how many adaptors will be required. There will also be a lot of variation in sound quality based on the card you choose.

If you are just looking to do the transfer and then have something for recording and messing around, check the TonePort UX2. Not meant for the next Grammy winning record, but easy to use, fun to work with and very supportable.

Everyone avoiding these is a good thing if you've got a bit of geek in you, don't mind digging though google, etc. You can chain four of them for what one cost a few years ago, when it was among the highest rated starter setups... Of course chaining four would be silly while its big brother Q10 is going for about $200.
