I ordered an upgrade from Cubase SE to Cubase SL, and I got it from Steinberg today, or so I thought. So I open the box, and there inside are a "Getting Started" manual, a registration card, registration instructions, authorization codes for Cubase SL and the demo version of "Hypersonic", and separate installation CDs for Mac and PC. That is it, nothing else. I have a PC, so I put in the appropriate CD, install the software, and restart my computer.

I go to start up the product, and I get an error message saying, "No Protection Key found." Now, I understand the concept of a key dongle. There was one on the copy of Logic Audio I had almost ten years ago on my old Mac, so I know what one is, BUT THERE WAS NOT ONE IN THE BOX.

Add to this the fact that two separate emails requesting information on the status of my order of this upgrade went unanswered, and I am getting very, very upset with Steinberg. If this is the kind of customer service they provide, I am beginning to understand why they are in second place to Digidesign. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea of using anything by MOA, but this is unacceptable. One hopes they have the good sense to respond to the email I sent tonight, regarding the missing key, by tomorrow.

I'm getting frustrated with them too. I've been waiting for an update to Cubase SX 2.2 because they supposedly were going to have native support for the FW-1884. So I was checking the update site everyday when one day I decided to go to the cubase forum and lo and behold I discovered that the update is available, but through a link that is not listed on the main website. So maybe it's not listed on the web site because they want the forum guys to test it out first. No prob I download it and install it. Still no fucking native 1884 support. They do have native support for the Yamaha 01x though, which is a newer product than the 1884.

ARGHHHHHH !!!!

Five emails and a fax, and I still have not heard from them.

I was finally able to get through to them today. They were very slow in understanding their mistake, and did not apologize for their fuck up, but they are sending me a dongle, finally.

And no apology for the 6 unanswered emails.

Sounds like there are alot of people that are not very happy with them right now from some comments that I've read on the official cubase forum.

Q: Did SE come with a dongle? If so, your suposed to use the same dongle. You need internet access to upgrade the dongle.

No, it did not come with one. I understand the concept here, but even if I did not, it does not excuse their shity customer service.

Hey, Light.

I had a similar issue when I first bought Cubasis. I couldn't get it to burn a CD. Had some e-mail exchanges with support, but to no avail. I wasn't really using it anyway at the time. A couple of months later, I thought I'd check their website, and there's a driver for my CD-ROM.

Wish the Steinberg guy would have told me about it.

I think if I had it to do over, I'd've gotten Home Studio.

Light,

I just ordered an upgrade from VST 5.1 to SX 2.0. Were you dealing with Steinberg US? If so, about how long did all of this take? I am worried now.
