Hello,

Should I uninstall CEP 2.0 before I try to install AA 1.5. I recently purchased a new computer and reinstalled CEP 2.0 and was having problems with CEP recognising plugs. I don't want this problem with my AA install.

I had my plugs in one folder (Direct X) within the program file.

I'd appreciate any advice on getting a smooth install.

I'm running XP home.

Thanks,
Rusty K

Rusty: I (and, I believe, a number of other AA users) have CEP 1.2, 2.0 and 2.1 running on our computers w no problems. I can open a song in CEP 2.0 or AA, although I use AA as a matter of routine. I think I had to install CEP 2.0 to load the AA upgrade (which I guess is what you did, too).

I'm having big problems. I upgraded and AA still won't recognise my fav plugins (on most all of my sessions), in fact they are now in the "unsupported" folder and even an uninstall of the plugs won't clear them from the unsupported list. At least they will load in CEP 2.0 (except for my verb). I don't get it. I'll have to do a bunch of work all over again, what am I saying?....these are my best plugs and I want to use them.

While I'm at it why doesn't the helpfile open just like it does in CEP? Now I have a microsoft between me and my helpfile? I don't want to spend time enabling javascript, I just want my helpfile to work.

As you may see I'm very frustrated. I feel like a monkey trying to screw a football.

Adding presets

This seems to be how you set up your presets: go to WIndow/Organizer Window and you'll open an area on the left side of the Multitrack View. There's a row of 3 buttons near the top: click on "Effects", the middle choice. Find the effect in the menu (and there are buttons at the bottom that control how they are displayed). Find the effect you want to add to presets, and double-click on it. A dialog box will open up and there will be a row of buttons toward the top that say "Add" and "Delete". You can also set the parameters of the effect while you're here. Click on "Add" and the "preset" box will open and you can verify that you want it in the presets. Then go back and add the others you want.

"Using Audition " adds that "Highlighting any effect in the list changes the effects setting to the setting stored with the preset's name...give the presets a descriptive name and use caution when deleting presets, as multiple occurences of the same name are allowed, and the wrong settings could be deleted.

"It is also a good idea to make a backup of your settings if you have made a number of custom presets or want to use you [sic] presets on another machine. The presets are stored in AUDITION.INI file (found in the program directory on single-user machines....Copy this file to backup the presets or replace the existing file to install your presets."

Hope this helps.

the only place my effects show up are "offline" they shouldn't even be there since the plugs are currently uninstalled and I've run DXman plugin manager to try to eleminate them from the list. Unfortunately AA still has them listed.

I'm pretty much at the point of packing AA up and sending it back. I can at least get the plugs back with CEP 2.0 although it's still not opening my session files with all of them.

These kind of problems seem to be endless with PC use. My friends tell me that Mac is like driving a Cadillac after dealing with microsoft.

My friends tell me that Mac is like driving a Cadillac...

That's what my youngest tells me, but I think you trade one set of problems for another. At this point I'd be reluctant to trade my hard-won "expertise" with AA for a new software system. Do you have the latest DirectX on your computer? I remember having problems with plugins before I upgraded. I'm surprised at all the difficulties. AA 1.5 has given me no problems...but then, people tell me they ran CEP flawlessly on 98SE computers, and mine was always crashing.

Are you running the Adobe effects or are you using addons? I had some odd moments trying to install the BBE Sonic Maximizer and Antares Auto-Tune 3.0, but in the end (third try or so) they installed and I was able to get them into the Effects List without too much trauma. I also use Waves and that installed without incident.

Here's a forum devoted to CEP/AA. You might find help there: http://66.118.157.209/*audiomasters...ndex.php?sid=2e461006d02dd3215147a9d9f6397800

yes these are third party plugs...much better/more transparent than the stock effects that come with. Running DirectX 9 if I remember...it's a brand new computer and was loaded at the shop.

Yes I have a lot of time/money invested with PC and Cool Edit, it's very unfortunate but if it won't work it's a waste of time. Sorry to be ragging but I'm really depressed. I really don't know what to do now. I have to start over on my projects I guess (hours and hours of work) kind of like a cruel Bill Gates joke. I'm gonna have to cool off and rethink things from here. I'm 58 and no longer a young gun with tons of time on my hands to waste.

update....

Here's part of a clue.

I first reinstalled the plugs in CEP2.0 although they still appear out of order. Second, I uninstalled/reinstalled AA 1./5. Now the effects are in the right place in the effects tab menu however when I try to open a session I get a window saying that none of my plugs can be located.

Too me that sounds like AA can't find it's butt with both hands.

At least this is an improvement. My plugs are there and they are functional when I bring them up on my rack set-up but I've still lost a hell of a lot of work if they won't open with my session files.

Why can't AA find the plugs in it's own plug menu?

Stupid question: did you refresh the effects DirectX list first?

lpdeluxe,

Yup to get them to show up I refreshed. I'm feeling much better now at least I have my most important plugs back. If I have to remix, well I'll try to look on it as practice. Of course I haven't tried saving and then reopening the session so I'll keep my fingers crossed that once I create and save a new session file everything will be working again.

I've been so upset I haven't had the chance to answer your emails.

Thanks,

LOL. I got to thinking about my experiences w Auto Tune, CEP and 98SE, about 3 years ago:A-T wouldn't load, the techs at Antares couldn't solve it, the Syntrillium guys didn't know what was wrong...I took it to my son in law in Austin and he loaded it on his computer with no problems; then we decided to "fix" my computer which, to make a long story short, led to the destruction of 2 years worth of music recordings (this is what taught me to BACK UP)....

One morning, in frustration, I tried installing Auto-Tune again. The computer beeped, and a window came up that said "An internal setting is incorrectly set. The computer will now reset it and restart." Sure enough, the screen went black, then booted up, and when it was running again I had Auto-Tune.

That was a couple of months of aggravation which I have conveniently suppressed. And I STILL don't have a clue.

I just recorded a couple of tracks and layed on some effects/saved/closed/reopened. Every thing seems to be working properly.

With respect to the other problem of the program not recognising my plugs when opening old sessions....could this be a corrupted ses file issue since the previous reinstall of CEP 2.0 was giving the same result? I think I remember the issue of recovering a corrupted ses file coming up on another post at some time.

I just now realizing that I didn't have many of my settings written down so that's yet another little task I'll have to preform, if I can remember all of them.

That brings up a question. I always go for the best quality within the limitations of my equipment. Now that AA supports 96,000 sample rate, should I use it? I have a gig of RAM.
