Been working on this for a while now. How's the mix coming along? there's another version on Sound Cloud as well.

Sounds like the guitars could come down a bit, I'm having trouble hearing bass and drums over them.
 
Guitars sound straight up the middle almost... they need more width. That will let the bass breathe more. If you need some tricks for width let me know, if you already know them then you need to try and employ (or employ them better).

I listened on headphones and it sounded pretty good. These headphones do tend to be a little brighter. On HP, guitars had good separation.

On my speaker system, guitars still sounded fine. But between say 190ish to 2K, seemed a little (just a tad) muddy. But I wouldn't make changes just based on my input.
 
First things first: Give a lyrics and a vocal melody. Everything else can wait on that. Otherwise, the guitar is smothering you mix. It a fairly generic amp sim tone, I'm guessing. Whatever you decide about that, you should consider lowering the guitar and panning it wider so that it opens up space for your bass and drums. I'm not hearing the connection between the guitar and bass.

Good ear on the amp sim. There's 5 guitar passes on this. 2 on the left about 30% & 40%, on in the middle, a few dB lower than the bass gtr, doubling the bass part, and 2 on the right, 30 & 40 %. I'll try widening them a bit more. I really don't like the Channel tools in Sonar for widening purposes. I recorded the guitar parts dry, and am going to re-amp them through my Carvin V3 using various pedals, OD and delay.
I don't have any lyrics, I really suck at writing and singing.

I used a variation of drum loops, and programming using Session Drummer 3 in Sonar. I have a buddy coming over Saturday to track some acoustic drums. (Fingers crossed that he shows).

yeah, the 2nd gtr, panned more to the right, and an octave higher than gtr 1 sounds too loud in my car.

I think it might be time to upgrade my studio monitors. I'm using M-Audio BX8a's in a semi-treated room.
 
I think it's just the instrument you spend most time with tends to be a little loud in mixes. That's been my experience anyway. Really like that bass tone.

The bass is a Fender Jazz through the 11rack, Dirnt setting.
 
Like the new mix. Listening on HD 380 Pro cans (it's morning here). I'll try to remember to listen on the monitors later, but it sounds pretty smooth. Just need a good vocal...:)
 
Song is really cool. Good performances and nice variation in playing.
 
Okay on the monitors: Clear and distinct.
From the bottom: Kick is weak to N/A. Needs some body. Maybe trigger it to a 60 hz oscillator?
Bass tone is nice, and probably just right for the genre. (PP would bring it up just a bit)
Snare has a nice tone. Drums are well done for programmed.
Guitar on the right is a bit forward.
Cymbals are crisp and pronounced.

Highly recommend the M3-8s if you're going to step up. Be aware that they are MID field. :) They get really loud, really fast if you have them close up. I'm still using Rokit 5s for my near fields, but want to step up to some Avantone mixcubes or Genelec M030s if I ever see the end of my wife's doctor bills...Well, those are the short list. :)
 
Actually, that last mix was the worst. I'm taking a step back and not listening to the song for while, I'll come back to it after the holidays. But on last listening, the right side was louder than the left. And the kik is weak, I have it sent to a channel with the bass guitar, maybe separating them will help. I started the mix by soloing them and getting the kik and bass as equal as I could, added the rest of the drums, then the guitars and then cymbals.

All the instrument channels have sends going to a main comp buss, and the buses have sends going to a parallel comp as well as a single reverb buss.

I'm struggling with lyrics or even a concept. And would like to wait on another mix until vox are added.

And when I upgrade monitors I'm going all the way or not at all, thinking Focal's or ATC's. Maybe next contract when I get a nice back pay check. I checked out those M-Audio 3-ways at Gearfest last year, they sounded good, but narrow sweet spot, and I think a sub would be needed for those as well.
