macle, i've been meaning to listen to some of your music, but somehow keep missing your links. I have heard a lot of praise for you; so I am sure you will make a fine addition to my HR collection. I don't know how I keep missing you, please post a link.

I also have to add Blue Bear Sound to my list of 'the best'. I listened to "Close to Me" with great enjoyment. A fantastic job!

It takes me a while to get around to everybody with my little 56k connection, but the effort has been rewarding. I don't know enough about mixing to make useful responses to the music posted, but I do know I like what I hear in the clinic. :)

honestly..

"taking my time" by heylow...is getting on up there on my "fav HR songs ever" list.

such a kick ass tune...that organ kills me...and the whole mix.

oh...and not to knock chucknd at all - definately sounds good...

but...I guess it doesn't sound *that* amazing to me...

and the synth drums etc...maybe its just the style difference...

it definately sounds good...

but you know, i think comparing things to radio hits is kind of pointless in a way...

It'd be nice to hear some of us there someday....if we did it on our own terms. But...i'd like to think that we are trying to do something more here than top 40 radio. I mean, we have the ability to release CDs with actual dynamic range...and with no politics or anything else....so if sounding like the radio is the goal...then thats a pretty bad one.

I'm saying the people who are on this bbs and others like it right now are going to very lilkely be at the core of the industry in like 10-15 years as things go more independent...and home recording is a norm...internet distrobution comes of age..and what not.

lets make it better ;)

btw, langley that whole freakin list and no macle...hehe. i have a smiliar cd.

btw - macle...checking out your new song in a few...you need to start a thread for it. new to me at least...the which way to the future one

Personally I like oral, but anal is good sometimes and you can't beat a tight pussy either...how does one decide

the hell are you talking about? heh

I wasn't comparing chuck's stuff to radio "hits" per-say... I was talking strictly about the mix quality. It's not my genre either, but I had to give the guy credit for making nicely rounded mixes. I understand we don't want to sound like a bunch of canned radio wanna-bes... but quite frankly, I think there are plenty of good points about radio quality mixes... and I don't like to listen to a song where the guitar jumps out at you too much in one point, or the vocals get drowned out by the drums in another, or where the synth sounds way to obvious and fake... I'm an acoustic type guy, so I like a nice straightforward, no-frills, melodic folk ballad just as much as the next guy... but if you're gonna throw in a rhythm elec. guitar, and a synth bed, and percussion, and organ, and a lead (etc. etc.) than it needs to be mixed just right or you get that "unbalanced" feel, which detracts from the experience. And I think chuckie did a good job of making a close to "perfect" balanced mix... and I haven't heard any other mixes around here that had reached that high of a "quality" or "finesse"... that was all I was saying aboot that.

WATF - i agree.

wasn't really directing any of my comments at you either..but, just in general.

Yeah, radio has a lot going for it....I mean, we are talking about pro mixes...sure.

And its a good benchmark - all I'm saying is that I've heard homerecorded stuff that is better than radio recordings....I dunno, I like dynamic range a lot, for one thing. I don't mind a vocal being louder/softer at times in the same passage even....its kind of...emotional to me.

But yeah, things need to be kept in balance, that much is certain.

I think I had too much hype for listening to chucks stuff - it's definately good...I just didn't jump back.

wes,... I understand... maybe it was just because I was still kinda new here when I first heard them, and I really didn't expect them to sound that good. Not all of em are "stellar" mixes, but when I listened to "Alright" it sounded like I had just tuned-in to a "New Country" radio station...

And now for something completely different... :p (not directed at anyone, of course... just my personal views about semi-related topics)

I understand some people dislike "competition"... but quite frankly... I don't.. and I think it's healthy. If you want to hear only nice things about yourself and your endeavors, then by all means.. find a nice planet somewhere where everybody is identical and where there is no such thing as "good" or "bad"... cause until you do that,.. you're gonna be faced with a hard cold reality: It is possible for you to suck. :p And since that reality exists, you've got two choices... You can whine aboot how you think it's unfair that you suck, and get all bitter aboot those who have "made it", and try to convince everyone that they're no better than you, but they just got "lucky", and then try to convince people that you don't really like that stuff anyway cause it's over-rated and you prefer to be "true" to the "real" music... (and blah blah blah)... OR... you can shut the h#ll up and work harder. :p I quite frankly choose the latter. Right now my mixing skills suck... and my song-writing ability is bordering just above mediocre... but I don't feel the slightest need to bash those who are better than me, or even belittle their superior abilities, just because I'm not "there" yet. I will continue to listen to one standard... my own... and continue to press on toward that standard.

But I would encourage everybody around here to not get caught up in trying to convince yourself that you "don't want" the things that you know we all want. Set your own personal standards high and don't stop until you reach them... cause wallowing around in the "no one's really any better than anyone else" mentality will never get you anywhere.

WATYF

P.S. This was meant to be an encouragement.. not a slam on anyone.

langleyt-I was just joking with you, on account of your long list, I thought it was funny, but sure, it 'd be great if you'd like to check it out. I've got 3 songs up there, so feel free to check out any of them.

Hope to past the test! :)

WATYF-That's cool. Thanks again.

Wes-Got your great email! Will respond soon.

WAYTF-I agree with you in some ways, and sure competition can be good and is a part of life, (and I'm not here to just get patted on the back). I just didn't think of this place in that way, and it wasn't that way before. I think of it as more just a learning place. How can I improve this mix, is the bass loud enough, does this song seem okay, etc.

Macle

WATFY - you have personally offended me, sir!

heh, j/k.

I think you make a lot of good points...esp "that you can suck" - very true.

I mean, it'd definately be cool to be a rock star and all that. I've seen some "big bands" recently at some festivals...that I would have written off as "just another band", but...when I actually saw them live...they were truely doing something that not many bands ever get to...in terms of performance. With enough hard work I think more people could make it "big".

For instance...I live in Atlanta...supposedly a big music hub and all....there arn't really any local acts around here that I get really excited about. And there arn't in Athens either....everyone is just pretty middle of the road...and the bands arn't that tight etc. People need to work work work. Myself included obviously.

Of course..there are some that do get lucky...but, thats to be expected. good post...and welcome aboard..btw.

haha...what the...I thought you said somewhere in your post that you were "new around here" or something....must have been someone elses.

I don't know what I was thinking....April 2000...bah, I take back my welcome ;)

You're right.. I did say I was "new".. I said then when I first heard chuck's stuff I was still kinda "new"... mainly to the MP3 clinic though... I signed up back in 2000 but never really came here much until this year.. (thus the mere 150 posts..) :p

And it's spelled W-A-T-Y-F.. :p If you spell it wrong again, I'll be forced to malign your next mp3 submission for no good reason...

:D

WATYF

My opinion isn't worth very much since I'm still pretty new here and haven't heard many of the recordings posted but the mp3 "Roger - Half the man" has been my absolute favourite so far. No doubt. It was posted a couple of months ago and I still listen to it very regularly.

Thanx much, -t!

I read that lengthy list of yours, and I was like,... huh?... I'm not on the list? Then I got to the very bottom line, and there I was, whew,... haha. It's true, I'm the only 'artist' on the list that you don't have to download, so "I'm unique", ahahahaha.

Thanx much,... and you're welcome, -t! [Wait for Vol 2, the RIP Dee Dee Edition!:(]

As you may all know by now, I'm not such a big mp3 fanatic, but of the mp3's I've downloaded, I think my HR fav's are:

-Track Rat,
-Samicide,
-Emeric, &
-Voxvendor,...

... but my HR fav's also include people who've sent me their own CDs:

-dtb,
-drstawl, &
-FWines

Oh, let me not forget that Bruce's cover of Close2Me is one of my most favorite downloads, but I can't seem to get a complete copy! Every time I download it, I get a different length song!

(I have not heard other HRcom members' stuff that people are raving about, but may soon).

Thanx again, -t! ;) Really, it was my pleasure!

I dug up this old post again,...

to name someone that I forgot to mention on the previous post.

[Here it goes]...

Another one of my HR favorites, not previously mentioned is,...

[drum roll],...

Monty!

Yes, Monty! You heard it right! Monty the Cave-dweller.

Even though Monty rarely comes out of the Cave, and posts mp3's about as often as Halleys' Comet comes around, Monty's "Orcha" was an outstanding piece of work, that IMO deserves mentioning, definitely, as one of my HR favorites.

Take a bow, Monty! [fanfare];)

I have to say that for me, personally, I think every one of the posts that I have heard on here kicks ass in its own way. Everyone on here is a bunch of multi talented individuals. I much rather hear the stuff posted here than anything on the radio these days. Everytime I hear someones new post it makes me wanna run and hide under the covers because they are so fantastic. I cant pick a "best" because you are all the best to me!!!
Thanks Much!!

Yeah, you're right. There's a multi-talented group of people on this board.

It's definitely more interesting than what you hear on the radio these days. No Kenny G here!;)

Hey macle, I almost missed your links. I listened to and downloaded all three songs. I couldn't stop myself; once I heard one I had to have them all. You are indeed worthy of the praise I have heard about you. I think my favorite of the three is "The Buzz Is Over". But haven't made up my mind yet, guess i'll have to give it another listen :).

Oh, and I gotta add VOXVENDOR to my list. I can't believe I left him off; he's got some really great music.

Then yesterday, I listened to a song posted by Ric (Ric Bonnell) called "The Draw". It was absolutely outstanding! He's now on my list. ;)

Thanks to all of you who post in the clinic. I look forward to adding both newbies and oldies music to my list who haven't posted as of yet. And to adding more music by the artist I have already downloaded. You are all number ONE on my list!

Hi langleyt, glad you finally got a chance to check them out! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.
