Hey Guys,

I've created a new song with an acoustic guitar and a violin. It's kinda jazzy and it reminds me a little bit of those old movies (stephane grapelli). I know there are a couple of notes in there that are not very well intonated but that's not too big of a problem, as we had only 1 day to record this. BTW the guitar was recorded direct and the violin was miked with a Shure SM58 Beta with me holding it front of the f-holes, LOL.
Let me know what you think of the tune and if it needs other instruments and whether or not it's mixed okay. What kind of eq, reverb, compression would you use?

Thanks for listening.

Hmm guess i better post the link too.....stupid stupid.....

Hope you like it,

Oooooooo.... I loved that !

Might wanna' look into some of those cheapo' condensers to get a better sound out of your guitar and violin. You already mentioned the couple "bloops" on the violin.

BTW: Had to download because it wouldn't stream from your current provider. Might want to check out http://www.nowhereradio.com for some space.

Also: Check out this thread http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79423 for a really good example of a recorded violin. Not sure what he used (mics) but the violin is said to be some 20 dollar cheapo.

Sounds good.

Although this is not what you want to hear:

This is the worst possible key for a violinist. If you can transpose the guitar up a half-step, a lot of the violin intonation problems will go away. He cannot use open strings in the current version, and trust a pro violinist here: it will sound a million times better if you transpose up a half-step.

Good job, I dig this type of music.

Thanks for the replys!

We did choose a rather odd key to play in. I asked the violin player if he would like to change the key but he said it was okay, so I didn't change it. We'll try a half step up or down next time.

Putting this back to the top 1 time :). Anyone else care to comment on this piece ?

Hey, nog een nederlander....

Nice...

Indeed, there are some intonation problems. I'm curious what happens if you transpose it, like DavidK suggests. Hey, who said 'why not use an autotuner?'...Chris? :D Haha, just kiddin'...

About adding reverb: I happen to like the ambience of your huiskamer. I wouldn't add anything big, at least. But the guitar sounds like it's recorded directly (no mic). I would use a tiny little room reverb on the guitar to make it sound the same as your violin. If you have Cakewalk FX3 Soundstage, this procedure is very VERY simple (and above that: kinky!).

Friendly songs like these don't need eq or compressing (IMHO)

Ivo, I loved it. My wife who was listening from the other room also commented on the song.

Very nice work

Pedullist : Hey inderdaad nog een nederlander ;) !! Thanks for your reply. Btw I read that you needed someone to play some guitar solos for your piece ? I'm a guitar player..if you need to have something played for you just PM me.

Smokepole : glad you and your wife liked it. Always great to hear positive replys.

Thanks
Ivo

Nice song. I don't play violin (:( ) but I know this one is not amateur player. If only you can use "brighter" string for guitar. Most of all, it goes to my CD. :)

very refreshing piece of music. nice playing, tiempo very good. The guitar could be brighter and bigger to support the violin a bit more. I felt like I was watching an old black and white there for a bit.
