“Commercial studios generally have an agenda in what equipment they show to the public. They wouldnt be caught dead touting good gear thats in the under $1k category. They desparately cling to the notion that +$1k = pro and -$1k=sumer.”
And my argument >>with respect to this statement you made<< is that there is in general a significant difference between these two classes of monitors - the most notable exception being the Mackies, which I personally don't think are very good.

There definitely is a bias when it comes to inexpensive monitors. Although many studios have behringer and other prosumer gear tucked away in their racks and buried in their equipment list.
Youre taking all of my statements which were made *in general* and taking them mean *always.*
Did I say there isnt a dif bet the two classes of monitors? There definitely is a dif. As it happens in some cases there is more of a dif and in some cases less. With event, tannoy, behringer, M-audio, alesis, roland, etc there is more of a dif and some almost insurmountable issues with regard to mixing (tannoy is probably the least problematic). With yorkville there is LESS of a dif bet the two classes. I wouldnt touch the roland DS90s which go for around $1k. They are ridiculously hyped everywhere. The mackies may not be a perfect speaker but in the majority of environments Ive heard them, other than my own, they reveal flaws in a mix and mixes done on them make sonic sense surprisingly often.
Again I think as kevin says often enough, the yorks easily beat out just about every speaker under $1k in terms of linearity, imaging, low mid/upper bass clarity (a huge issue which NONE of the usual suspects in the range come close to with the possible exception of tannoy). Again, they are not the best monitors ever created, they have a slightly fatiguing top end and are sibilant but they are not just another "bang for the buck" buy,,,or something to get you started with.
