i passed on listening when i saw "swamp boogie"......

luckily, this doesnt resemble "swamp" or "boogie".....i hear the Ratt influence....also Dokken.....

gotta love the 80's.....gotta love this tune....well done!!!!

my sentiments, exactly.

.......great stuff gonzo....
.........serious guitar playing goin on!! I'll echo the ratt comparison. ......great musicianship man...... excellent!!!!

ratt ?!!?

b. sabbath-
(such a cool moniker.......)
it's funny that you mention Ratt...... though i certainly heard their music during the mid 80's, i never bought any music, or played anything, couldn't call them any kind of influence at all......

i wonder, if you could tell me, exactly what it is about my tune that brings that to mind.......
is it the sound of the drums, the straight patterns, with that reverb on it?
is it the chord structure?
the arrangement......?
i don't mind the comparison, just don't understand it.......
and if i want to grow from it, i gotta figure it out.......

i really think a more authentic cajun beat would set it off the way i really intended.........
thanks for checking it out!

lt. bob-
(with salute......)
same question. what is it that makes it sound that way? i would change it to make it sound more modern, if i knew what it was! ;)

gidge-
same to you...... what is the "ratt influence"..... maybe i should check these guys out more closely......

mixmkr-
same thing...... i'd love to be able to avoid any comparisons, though that's hard to do......

what can i do to change the vibe to a more modern thing?
the chord changes and tempo are what they have to be, so i can only figure that a different drum track would be the answer.....
am i correct?

thanks for the input.......

Hints of 80's-ish-ness:

1. Mainly: Lots-o-solos/fills. Flashy fills in between verses is a trademark 80's style.

2. Guitar style: Harmony guitar lines, whammy work, harmonics, fast runs - very 80's/early 90's guitarists (esp. Vai).

3. Judicious reverb and delay.

4. Melodic vocals.

I listened for the Ratt comparison. I could hear a hint of the DeMartini grooviness. Song structure is a bit Ratt-ish. Kind of a "Way Cool Jr." groove.

Eh. Just some impressions. Still sounds great.

that's exactly what I was going to say Lopp..

hey gonzo, I definitely didn't mean my comments as anything negative dude.. this kicks ass!

I happen to love the first 2 Ratt albums as well.:o

I wouldn't change anything to not sound like something... that's even worse than changing something to try and sound like something else.. :D

just keep doing what your doing........... only do it more!

late!

I definantly hear Ratt & Roll here. With a little stevie Vai thrown in... Nothing wrong with that in my book. I was in a band that people said sounded like Savatage, yet none of us listened to much Savatage. It happens.... I do now-lol. The tempo needs to come up i think. Great guitar playing. I've been restraining myself lately from slippin into my old ass 80's ways but I think shred is comin back. We just got a new Radio station that rips and they are playing all the old good shit, like Ozzy, Ratt, Zep, AC/DC etc, and they play some of the new Hard rock like Zombie and Godsmack. They even throw in Pink Floyd at times... Strange station and no commercials. Thought it was a pirate Radio station at first. I find out its owned by Clear channel($$$$$$) ....Sooo the music industry is starting to push Metal again.... YES!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!

Dayum dude, this is on a VS??? I had an 880EX, I never got anything like THAT out of it! Well done!!!!

You really evoked a visual of hot sauce and various related metaphors with the guitar lickage. ROCK SOLID man, I have no criticisms whatsoever. I'm just doing the chair-boogie!!! Congratulations on a FINE piece of work, ya shredmeister, ya! :D

Nice Picardy third on the end too!

Forgive me but it just makes me laugh that you do what you do so well and yet can't immediately identify what everyone else immediately hears. It's kind of like people who sport mullets and never even know that their hair style has a name.

Gonz, your music has 80's metal written all over it and that's why so many of us here love it! Your music kicks ass. Please don't try to change it. BTW other give aways were the stadium sounding drum samples and the lyrics talking about evil, walking dead and alluding to hell (it doesn't matter that it was tongue and cheek since any metal whose lyrical content includes evil, hell-spawned monsters or Beelzebub can't be taken too seriously)

"Hints of 80's-ish-ness: "

LOL !!

Lopp-
i appreciate your hints!
LMAO.........
yeah, i can see it now..... hopelessly lost in the (when was it.... oh yea, the 80's!)
i guess my style really is a child of the late 70's..... but i think even if i was a young kid now, just developing a "style", i'd end up playing the same way...

my influences where jimi page, ritchie blackmore, jeff beck, jimi hendrix, al dimeola, john goodsall (brand x).........

b. sabbath-
hey man, i understood where you were coming from, no prob!
and i appreciate your candor.....
it's what makes your opinion matter......
and honestly, i guess i'm clueless!
LOL

metal militia-
with a moniker like that, i ain't gonna argue with you ! :)

Myx62-
it's funny, the only ratt i ever heard was whatever they played on the radio at the time.... i always liked this guy Martini (ha)...... i thought his style was fluid and sassy.... george lynchy in a way, but a little more melodic, not quite as manic.....
Vai definitely is a more recent listening influence, though i haven't sat down and tried to learn anyone elses' songs since 1986........

Llarion-
yeah, the 880 is not all that, but it's not a bad machine either... for 8 tracks it's fine......
this hot sauce, it's got a little picture of a bat flying over a swamp, at the middel of the night, in front of a full moon, with fire coming out of it's mouth.....
the lyric was pretty much a literal translation of the bottle cover....
it's really tasty!
