A Sun Records sounding song.......... well, maybe not

i have posted a new song on my page (link in my signature). I tried to get that raw, primitive, kinda messy Sun Records sound. Kinda like the early songs by Cash... Cry, Cry, Cry....Hey Porter and I Walk the Line. Its called "Dont Need You Anymore". It was recorded live, so the bleed through of all the instruments was kinda hard to deal with. I know there's probably alot of work to be done. I'm all ears
 
Sounds okay. Id like to hear the drum(s) centered. Also, whoever is playing bass isn't in the right key or is playing a different song alltogether. Keep practicing. :)

Yup.

Bass player isnt playing in the right key. :D Ummm, definitely a problem unless you are into atonal music. ;)
 
It's all a bit too toppy. The bass is buried, possibly due to the clash of keys.
Replace the bass & decide what sort of bass sound you're after - double bass/bull fiddle, classic Fender P & EQ accordingly BUT then make sure there's a solid bottom end to proceedings.
Are you using a classic bass drum free set up?
 
Hi,

I found that it is better to write 5 procent under your level of skill and in recording play at 110 procent.
The bass-player is clearly at his limits, you have to have maximal note-sound when playing.

Also like noted before the tuning is all wrong.


But hey, practice makes perfect ;)
 
thanks for the input. This song was recorded a few months ago so i doubt we will rerecord it. I do notice now that the upright bass might be a few notes too low maybe?? I'll bring that point up when we practice again. And Blor007........ not sure what you mean by "procent"?? :confused:
