A strange, metal(ish) band I recorded.

It sounds good. I am not crazy about the snare sound, it sounds like its a little muted or "in a can". Other than that the sound is pretty good.

I assume they are not releasing this? I doubt they can use that quote without a mechanical license.

The vox?? Not much I can say, they are what they are. I like the guitar tone quite a bit, you did an excellent job.

Yeah, I think the snare could be taken down a notch. It seems to stick out a bit much for me. Othere than that, most things seem to sit well. I did like the Sabbath break...probably my favorite part....

Good luck wiht it man....hard to tell what sound they might want. Snare is the only thing I hear that comes to mind though.

Hey, thanks for the listen. Yeah, these guys will only be releasing this independantly so hopefully they won't get sued for the Sabbath quote... :p

That snare was one of those things that I liked after tracking, but after the mixing, I agree it sounds a little off. I had been thinking of layering a nice sample over it, but the band likes it that way...go figure.

The vocals are the deal breaker for me. I might actually like this band if it wasn't for that, haha.

Thanks again David

Thanks Dog. That snare does stick out here and there, maybe some more automation is in order.
I had a sort of preliminary listening session with the band after tracking and they were digging the snare then. I'll have to see where they stand on it now. You're right, there's no telling.

Thanks for listening

sounds pretty tight to me...I think the snare volume is just about right for this type of music.

Yeah, it's one of those, if they like it, best to please them. It's not horrible, but not to my taste. But, it didn't make me quit listening either. :D

Those vocals are rather annoying.

I think you've done a good a job on the mix, everything seems to be very well defined. The snare didn't really bother me; I found it suited the chaotic style of the song.

The guitars sound nice. How did you track them?

i agree the snare stands a little too much, but overall great mix.
GOD I HATE SCREAMO!!! I have a screamo band coming into my studio next week. FUN FUN FUN. :D

Thanks, the guitars are 2 tracks of Mesa Dual Rectifier, mic'd with an Audix I5 through an FMR Audio RNP and 2 tracks of Peavey 5150 mic'd with an SM57 through an M-Audio Tampa. The 5150 tracks were done with re-amping so it's only 2 actual performances. The Mesa's gain was really cranked to get "his" sound. The 5150 was done with much less gain and alot of midrange. I hated the sound he was getting from his Mesa, so I had alot of trouble settling on this guitar sound. I almost wanted to throw it out and just do re-amping, but I figured it would offend the band.
There is also a EQ cut at around 400 Hz, and a high pass at 100. All in all I rather like it for this band.

JMXDrummer, thanks for the listen. I'll put some more thought into that snare, but I'll leave it up to the band ultimately. I hate screamo too! :D

I've heard Mesa's sound much better BUT I'm no fan of boogies anyway,BUT on the other hand the Bass Drum sound is the real story here.Sounds awesome, also have to agree on the very annoying vocals but I guess it fits the style of music.Don't mind the snare sound as much as it is too loud though.Good Job!

I think this is one of the rare moments, that I could not listen to a tune to the end. It has nothing to do the recording skill though.

EDIT: I am not trying to be mean or hurt feelings. I couldn't even listen to the guitars or drums, because the screaming was so piercing and loud. I am on headphones because of the hour and I had to jerk them off!!

Thanks for listening guys (as much as you could... :D )

Hey True, don't worry about it. This band is DEFINITELY not for everybody. In fact they are almost not for anybody :p . They do have a fanbase believe it or not, and are about to go on a tour.

Yeah, the vocals just make me wonder "Why?"
When I was doing the mix, I had to do the vocals absolute last so that I could deal with the rest of the music.

Guitars sound very good. Snare's been covered already. Can't figure out what exactly it is about the singer's voice that's annoying? Guess he sounds too light - a little whiny for the style. Mix is well balanced on my system.

Tim

hmmmm

Some of the vox style reminds me of Rorshach (spelling?). I like their harsh vox, but not the emo stuff. To each his own.

Not digging the rip off riffs from Sabbath. Weak attempt at humor and/or tribute.

Great drummer.

Everything is recording and mixed perfectly in my book. I love the recording and wish I could do shit that clean and divided.

On a deeper level, I'm kind of sad that every new "metal" band has to try and be so technical you can't really grab onto a riff and rock with it. But, I digress while drunk.

Hi,

What an excellent job you did with this band :D
The music is horrible but the mixing is great.

I have a mesa boogie too , can you post a small fragment of that guitartrack please (mixed vs non mixed)
I'm really trying to get a guitar sound like this , but i'm getting nowhere near it :(

NP if you don't have the time !!

is ok, they're trying to do some neat stuff.
you have to be super-tight to pull this stuff off, and they're just not there yet.

my only problem is, the drums and gitars sound completely separate to me.
if they could gel somehow it would make the track sound a lot better.

and the guitars sound good, but some how i want more. can't explain it.

nit picking and all.

Thanks for listening guys.

Blor007, I'll see what I can do when I have some time. Actually, the guitars are alot of 5150, the Mesa tracks are mixed around 3 db below it. The grainier element of the sound that is panned really wide is the Mesa.

Giraffe, I don't mind nit picking. Thanks ;)
