ZZ Top wouldn't be my immediate reference but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Random thought just occurred to me - with your vocal and guitar sensibilities you could do a stonking cover of Dweezil's version of Zappa's My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Momma :D

hey bulls!
thanks for listening..
yea, the main riff, is sort of a rip of 'la grange', with a couple more moving chords added in.
nothing obvious, i don't do covers, per se...
speaking of which, yea, i know that dweezil tune, i think vai might have played on it..?

appreciate the comments for sure.

this song is kind of like QOTSA meets zztop.
LOL

I don't hear either of those bands in this - so I guess that means you were successful in covering the influence.
One kind of nitpick - but the drums are locked in tight but the bass and guitars are floating over the beat to me -
and I think the guitars are not deep enough.

On a different note 'Out of the Dark' that follows the rocker - very enticing.

hey papanate,
thanks for the comments...
you know, the style of playing over the beat, that's quite intentional,
in fact, driving the desire to stay away from that 'locked in' sound was a goal.

maybe, the drums are too tight, mix wise, i've often thought of bringing more room effect into that mix, and making the drums feel.... looser.
i may try that this weekend.
i mean, even a delay on the snare, or a big room treatment ala zep, may be a neat touch.
thanks for the ideas.

and if you mean the acoustic number that follows on the album, yea, i'll post that one next.

Yes the acoustic number that follows is fantastic.

Guitars sound awesome, complex crunch..I like , wah sounds cool, like the shift for the solo around 1:20 .Vocals do remind me of QOTSA at times, as well as the over all melody of the song, has that slight "off" feel that QOTSA has ...awesome song , dug it!

THANK YOU stratmonkee!
yea, you get the queens callout proper.
not a direct quote or lift anywhere, but the idea of it. yea.

guitars are all mesa boogie mark2b amp into a closed back celestion cab,
but captured with a Palmer PDI-09.... no mics.
