hi, a friend of mine has a laptop and needs a soundcard. I figure the card will have to be usb compatable, but I really have no experience with such products.
Can someone recommend me a cheap usb soundcard with 2 ins, 2 outs, and MIDI is optional (better with midi tho).
His budget is about 200 or less.

Big thanks in advance

Hello,

you could have a look at midiman audio quattro, it's quite cheap and it has 4 ins + 4 outs, and MIDI in and out as well.
I use it with my ibook and it works ok.
Some problems with mac os X thou.

hope this helps
bye
Marco.

The Quattro is out of his price range. He wants something for around $200. Plus, it would be a waste if you don't need preamps.

If you need pre's look at the Edirol UA-5. I used one for awhile and it was great. Has two pre's headphone out, all that jazz but no midi. You can find em used on Ebay for $200 or so

Or you could get the Audiophile USB and a Presonus TubePre, which would warm things up nicely and sound great.
