Hi,

I just purchased a copy of Sound Forge 7 and I hope to use it to master a CD. I am looking for whatever tips I can get, as the whole PC editing thing has me a bit overwhelmed so far.

Basically, I am looking to enhance the overall mix with a bit of EQ and then compression (or limiting) in order to bring the mix a little more up front and "in-your-face". Also, is there some way to compare the individual songs to make them all sound like they are the same volume? I noticed the RMS (?) thing, however I am not sure how it works.

Sorry for my ignorance. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Harold

Pick up a copy of Bob Katz' book - Mastering Audio: The Art and The Science.

You'll get a great understanding of the mastering process, and while you won't be able to come close to what professional mastering is capable of, you'll at least be able to adapt a portion of the process to your projects. Plus you'll learn what you SHOULDN'T be doing....
