Hey people!

As a memory of 9/11, this stupid war and the 1000+ U.S. Soldiers killed over in Iraq, I'm posting a tune I wrote (some of you may have heard this before) while watching CNN practically 24/7 shortly after the war started.

Enjoy...sort of...

Sorry, but from the songwriting perspective this didn't work for me at all. You have to be extra special to tackle this kind of topic, and although you are clearly earnest I didn't feel you had the depth. From your web site comment "9/11 sucked" to a couple of the lyrics that stood out "runaway freight train", then something like "I think I'm in love/I think I saw a dove" - well, all of that's not telling me anything new, or even putting a new light on it.

Only my view of course.

Hey are you the one who wrote the "So cold" song? I love that fucking song. You,re unique and if your the the one who wrote the song labeled "so cold" than I want to ask if you are interested in collaberating with me on the very subject of this song. BTW pay no mind on the ignorance of the peole on this forum. Granted the love and dove combo is a little overused, that is very popular with EVERY DAMN POP ARTIST today. You did not ask about the song writing/composure in itself but simply ask for people to listen to it as a whole. And as far as "You have to be extra special to tackle this kind of topic", what about Alan Jackson's stupid ass? Is he extra special? "Where were you when the world stopped turning? is those lyrics the type that is extra special? Opps sorry Robert, you are a little too late to post a song about 9/11. That was like a couple of years ago. If you were to write a song that stated" Poor people......ladada, jumped to the grounds to their deaths...ladada, the U.S. just wants to protect you....ladada believe what the government tells you and you'll be blessed...ladee fucking da. Robert, great job brother. Keep on keeping on and the offer still stands to collaberate with one another and it will be my pleasure.

AHHAAAAA! you are the one behind so cold( I saw your website) Hey I got some pretty fucked up stuff that you can put in the beginning of this song that will add to a great shock value. It's a marine that talks about the genicide that was commited in Irag in the name of democracy. I think it will go along nice man. Let me know and I can E-mail it to you.

yo Alteezza!

Where do you live?

I'd be all about getting together on a tune. Thanks for the support on this one, and i'm glad you like that tune "So Cold". That one has gone over really well for one reason or another.

I really didn't have any huge political agenda with this song. it is what it is, and it's more of a snapshot of my feelings at that exact moment in time...right when we went to war... i'm really not that political. In fact, I hate politics. I think they're all scum bags, but, like i said, it's basically just a slice of life when i try to put myself in their shoes.

ZELLUS: nope, got a bunch more tunes at... http://www.roberttait.com

GARRY: you're totally entitled to you opinion. Obviously, I've got to not agree with you, but I respect it no the less. I'm not going out of the way to tackle this thing. I'm just here to document my feelings and...well...just a tune that "popped up" at the very beginning of the war. that's all. if you don't like it, that's all good with me. The words that were put out there where the words that came to my mind at the time. i'm not trying to win some kind of poets prize or anything...just getting across what was on my mind at that time...cliche or not. But honestly, thanks for listening and responding!

Robert - yes, definitely, if we all agreed the world would be a boring place indeed :)

cool

I liked it a lot. I will check out your web site--ken

Hey Robert. I am a little stuck in Idaho right now. No fun. Surrounded by country people all the time. But if I don't end up going to Japan I will be running down through California at the end of 2005 sometime. Yeah I like your tunes man. Have you ever played with Jack Johnson any? You'all would probably hit it off really well considering he's a surfer too! :) So I'll keep in touch about the collaberation offer. That material is not a vocal or sound idea at all and wouldn't desicrate your initial thoughts of your song. I was talking about the spoken news part at the beggining. It's a radio show about a marine who gives a first hand experiance of the genicide going on over their i the war and how his marines under his command can't wait to come home because they feel really bad about shooting young children and families. It's really really sad. Hard to listen to. But it meshes well with the concept of this song. But o well taslk to you later man. I'll try to set something up with you for next year.

GARRY SHARP: Amen!

SMOKINDOG: Thanks! I appreciate that...feel free to check out the other tunes on the main site. Thanks for listening and replying!

ALTEEZZA: Cool, well look me up if your in either San Francisco (or possibly San Diego...might move). Enjoy Japan if you go. I've heard a lot of good things about it! Nope, never played with Jack. It'd be cool though. I've always liked his stuff. He's probably the on guy (save the band Sublime) that I get compared to a lot. Thanks for taking the time to check out some of my tunes, and I'm glad you're enjoying them!

Thanks people!

T8:

You continually amaze me by somehow forcing me to absolutely adore shit that I would normally swear that I couldn't stand. I have no idea how you do this, but consider yourself included in the ever-so-exclusive "I thought I hated this crappy genre, but this is some of the best fucking music I've ever heard" category. Awesome job as always.

Just so you know, your songs tend to get stuck in my head after about 10 seconds worth, thanks to your obvious brilliance at being able to write the catchiest melodies ever. And for that, you'll most likely have to be destroyed.

Hopefully you took this as complementary as it was intended, you absolute bastard!

Wow! That's actually one hell of a compliment (I think). I'm glad my tunes bore into your noggin' and disturb you into liking music you swore off. I can now die a happy man. :)

What type of music do you usually listen to?

Thanks for listening and replying.

Normally heavier rock stuff, but with a good sense of melody. Generally, I like aggressive stuff (Amorphis, Therapy, God Machine, Fear Factory, a bunch of industrial garbage, etc). It's weird though, that my favorite songs are by bands (and genres) that I'm not normally into--Toad the Wet Sprocket, Pulp, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ian Moore...you get the idea.

The first time I heard your stuff was when I showed up to work and damn near got attacked by Doombot who was yelling at me to listen to this band at all costs. Word started spreading and now...

...it always seems like everybody I know is singing "More Sex Than Me."

Great stuff. Let me know if you play a show in Denver sometime.

PURGE: I think the only one on that rockin' list is Therapy? They're pretty sweet, although, I haven't heard anything from them in some time. Older Toad has some cool stuff, as well as J&MC...some of my old favorites myself.

Ha...I like the story of people mentioning some of my stuff at work! that's pretty funny...and cool I guess, that some other people seem to be liking some of my stuff. We've been working on getting enough for an hour set, which we're just about at now. The guys I'm playing with now are really talented, so hopefully we can start playing out more often. We've basically only played 2 shows, and one of them was a private thing at a friends party. But thanks! I'll give you a shout if we ever get out to the Denver area. Thanks!

hey i like it!

i was a bit hesitant with all the negative posts but i listened to it anyway.

i think the song is really catchy. especially the chorus

only advice i can give, the vocals are a little mumbled, words are not very clear. i guess it's the fast melody. not a major problem, just thought i would point that out.

good stuff!

Everytime you started to do that little fast shuffle vocal in the verse...
"couldnt cry, didnt try, blah blah blah, blah blah blah....

Its hard for me to put into words how much i hate that part.

And not because of the lyrical content.

I just thought it sucked.

On the other hand....
In terms of Mixing and the Fidelity of this song?

Nice work Rob!
:)
It sounds really good.

Dude...what the hell are you talking about?! I can't tell if your being sarcastic or if you truly hated it. You seem to hate the words and the way it's sung, but love the mix? ...just trying to clarify here. it's interesting that it could induce pure anger and hatred, yet still in the same post get "nice work!"

Your a mystifying man...

You perceived my words 95% correctly Rob.
The words are relevant. But the way they are sung sounds painfully tacky to me.

Dont flatter yourself.

And dont get me wrong either.
Its clear your a talented guy.
I just dont like this song.
People dont care for my music too from time to time Rob.
Nothing mystifying about that.

cool...not everyones going to dig every tune. so that's all fine by me. thanks for listening and replying! It's good to hear both sides of the coin here. no mater how much you love it or hate it...

i'm not getting how you found me trying to flatter myself out of

but okay.

it just seemed like a really cryptic message you sent...full of both praise and hatred...that's all, just trying to figure it out. And now I know where you were going with it. that's all. thanks for listening!
