What would you guys suggest for this idea.
Let's say I have a song and lyrics that popped in my head, and I know for sure I am going to lose "the moment" unless I sing the lyrics and melody line with basic chords from a small keyboard into some type of recording device. What kind of recording device should I have? A small Panasonic cassette recorder? If I capture these ideas, and especially the melodies whilst they are fresh, I will be in good shape. Today was a prime example. Had it ALL in my head. Got home.....and just fragments were left. Does this sound like a good idea to you guyz? Thanks in advance -----LEE

Hey Sound.
I care a mini cassette with me most of the time.
Fits in my shirt pocket, light weight, and the quality is good enough I can hear the melody and words very well.

I have a mini cassette too, cut at home I use a regular deck with a mic.

As ling as you can hear it later:)

It looks like mini cassettes or possibly those mini discs might be be the ticket. Mini discs aint cheap.....like 130-150$ for starters, but both are indespensible to capture a fleeting idea. Thanks guys!

Mini disc sounds like a great idea. I was going to mention what ever you use make it simple. I have a room full of mic's set up all the time that I could pipe into the daw, but it's to much of a pain and by the time you get it set the moment may be passed.

I wouldn't spend the $ on a mini disk just to capture fleeting thoughts. You could buy a decent mini cassette, a bag full of tapes and a handful of batteries and still take the little lady out to dinner for the price of a Mini Disk.

There'll be time when you'll want to unload your pockets for some reason and leave your mini disk behind.
If ya don't pinch the legs off of that mini disk it's gonna get up and walk away. Not saying the cassette will wander off too, but for what you will be using it for, just capturing those ideas that you could lose if you try to remember them, it's easier to replace a mini cassette recorder than the disk.

I paid about thirty $ for mine, I have been using the same tape for two years and I use rechargable batteries. Now the thing is like my billfold. If I don't have it with me, I know it right off and go back and get it.
