Hey Cool -- the upload feature worked this time!

New mix on a song I wrote for my wife ... whose name actually is Holly Linda.

Any/all comments warmly appreciated.

I recon you are finding your voice K-dub (wish I could say the same). Some kind of Vegas swooner seems to be your traction. Really nice piano/xylophone/bass/percussion sections in this. And suiting your singing style more and more.

Thanks Tobe!

Even 30 years back when I was playing out, people would come up to me and say, "You've got a Broadway voice." ... which being a fan of musicals, I took as a compliment. This one folks seem to think sounds Steely Dan-ish ... which I can see given the jazz chord overtones to it.

Very nice. I didnt really like how one of the toms was panned, but hey thats just a tiny nit. other than that, very nice 3d effect on the drums. Love the traveling tamborine ;)

The Steely Dan influence is coming through very loud and clear here. A well written tune. I like the song. But performance wise it seems to need "tightening up" sounds kinds loose as is. Then again, it also sounds "live", so if that's what you're going for leave it like it is.

That impression comes from the very live drums (as does the panning issue mentioned). I've actually got the toms panned pretty close to center, but the overheads on the drums are fairly wide -- so no matter where I put the toms in the mix, they wind up sounding pretty roomy ... a.k.a. 3D ...

Consequently, mixing has been sort of a "trying to fit the rest around the drums" ... so the challenge has be to make sure the whole work fits in context.

Has all the skillz of Steely Dan with it's own flavor and taste. Love the variety of instrumentation. Your stuff is always top shelf material...mix is great too.!

Thanks bud! I'm about to jump over and give your song a listen. I'm taking a short break from painting this morning and listening to music.

Those mega compressed sounding tom interruptions kill the song. The rest is very nice. Good mix.

You know, G ... the same thing struck me. I edited the ring out of the toms so that they'd be out of the way by the time the kick hit -- and they do sound a bit unnatural and out of place.

Yeah they sound like overdubs. Afterthoughts. They jump in and out and definitely sound out of place. Also, the tone of the toms doesn't quite fit the genre. This type of music doesn't usually have big bombastic toms. They're usually flatter and more subdued. Think jazzy cocktail lounge style drumming. Nice, mellow toms. Flat and warm. These toms would be more at home in an 80's hair-metal ballad. :D

The rest though, like I said, sounds good. The vocals sit in the mix very nicely and everything else sounds well balanced.

Oh yeah, very Steely-danish....!:)
Lovely vocal melody, those kind of chords are not easy to sing to. My only nit would be the drum sound, it's a bit too aggressive for this kind of tune. Otherwise, once more a touch of class, both in songwriting and performance.

those toms ain't hacking it....other than that... very nice.. really like the bass and vibes.

Ditto on the Toms. That was the first thing I noticed when I listened to it. I could see some good dead sounding 70's tom doing the job.

The only other thing is your vocals seem to sit a tad too much out front, try pulling them back into the mix and add a bit more verb, but just a little on both accounts.

Other than that, the song and mix sound great.
