Sounds good, I might bring down the guitar solo just a bit. Really like the background vocals. Nice performance!

Thanks, easiern. I'm going to do another mix soon, and I will adjust the solo.

Nice vocals. Everything seems to have space and nothing is really walking on other instruments. Drums sound good, although I think the toms sound a little "fake". I can barely hear the bass on my subbed system so it may need to be brought up a little. Good job.

Very Rush-y. nice playing, though lots of the transitions were sloppy, and that snare rhythm doesn't help the attempts to transition smoothly. Bass would nicer if it were up a few, IMO. nice tune and playing all around.

What's the effect on the vocals? It sounds really auto-tuned, which is generally frowned on in this sort of music.

It's a promising song with an intricate arrangement. I agree with andrushkiwt that the performance needs to be tighter. The drums are the main issue. The fills aren't always helping with your transitions. The lead vocal does sound a bit processed. I'm not hearing any obvious auto-tune artifacts, but something is going on there. Guitar playing is good. I assume you're using an amp sim. The guitar tone sounds okay, not fantastic.

I thought it had a bit too much high end, but not ear splitting. Performance was fine to me.

On my system, little 3-5K (guessing) cut would make it sound really good.

really cool song, I really like the BGVs. how were the drums recorded? the toms seem to have a different processed sound than the snare. Good job. :D

How's the bass in these samples of "Away From it All"

Thanks for all the feedback. I put up some samples of the song with a bit of difference in the way I treated the bass. Let me know which sample (mix 54, 55, or 56) sounds the best, and if it needs to come up or down in the mix.

Yes, there was some use of Melodyne on the lead vocals on this song, VHS. As this is a demo for future musicians to someday rerecord, I created a better melody for the singer to be guided by, using Melodyne as a melody creator, which would account for some of the anomalies you hear. The lead vocal is thus ready for a redo based on that melody line I created.

Pretty amazing. Like Rush meets Ted Nugent....for what that's worth.
56 is too muddy. Too pushy.
55 is still too pushy, but it sounds decent
54 really brings the bass out to the front, but you might have to back it off just a smidge still.

I liked mix 50 much better than 58... However, only three things I can see changing abot mix 50...

1) Vocals are too dynamic... when you hit higher notes that have more power/emphasis they realize cut through the mix too much. Overall volume is good though.
2) The guitar you have that comes in at 1:08 which is panned is pretty twangy... Maybe cut frequencies around 8k Hz?
3) The "background" instrument that comes in around 3:00 and ends around 3:26 is WAY too loud. Cut frequencies like crazy and turn its volume down after that too probably.

Again, these were comments on 50... Hopefully they help in some fashion. I'm listening on Sol Republic ear-buds.

Thanks, Lurker. Mix 58 was created because a few members from this, and another site, said the bass needed to come up fuller than what was represented in mix 50.
I am now going to turn the mix 58 sample into a mix 58 song with some of your suggestions in mind.

Whoa...this reminds me of music I listened to as a kid. I'm not sure exactly sure why but I feel like the track could be a little beefy-er... It's cool though. I can hear everything really well. over all, pretty solid mix (IMO), perhaps some mastering would really thicken it up...then again, I never know what i'm talking about. :)

Thanks for the compliment. I'm avoiding mastering these songs I'm posting in lieu of HR members telling me I'm "overcooking" my mixes with too much compression, but, yea - mastering would make it beefier.
