i was hooked up with a killer drummer down in the dallas-ft worth area, who took a demo i had of this song, and laid down drum tracks for this, and 7 other songs that will be on a new full length cd i'm about to release.....

i'm hoping i can garner some interest here at home recording!
 
THIS SONG KICKS SERIOUS ASS!!!!

It sounds like Jane's Addiction with Nuno Bettencourt joining in on guitar.

The vocals are similar to Perry Farrell's style (IMHO) and it really works for this song.

I really like this... A LOT!!!!

This is the kind of stuff that should be on Rock radio, not the current crap we're forced to listen to.

nuno, would definitely be a 'listening' influence, but not a playing influnce.. he's way too good.
i dig janes as well, though i've never played or sang any of that stuff....
of course, this is just one song from a group of 10 'vocal' songs i have on this cd, it doesn't all sound like this one.

this is probably the most 'gonzo' one.... the others are a bit more accessible...

i'd really like to be able to record my guitars through a 4x12, but with my renting my place on the other side of my landlord, i've resorted to the demeter cabinet....
which ain't bad, but i know what it could really sound like!

Good song, I like the vocals, but it seems like they're not sitting in the mix right. And it's just personal preference here, but I think the drums could stand a little more room in the mix. The snare especially sounds like it should be bigger. Right now all you hear from the snare is some ~5k pop and no 'thud' at all. The kick is pretty much lost in the mix too.
 
Sounds good to me overall. Very nice production.

The drums sound a tad thin, maybe?
I'd like to hear a thicker sound, especially on the cymbals.
 
Great Tune - man - just gets right in your face right away. Excellent guitar playing. Rest of the band are hot too - drums/bass/vocals :D. Great mix - everything just kickin' - excellent! :D
 
I agree with Alex. Vocals are very good for the genre, and the guitar work is tight, and well mixed. Bass is good, also. I can't hear any of the drums except snare and toms. The kick drum and all of the cymbals are getting lost in the mix.
All in all, though, it's good, honest, hard rock. Thanks for sharing.-Richie
 
Nice work. Phew, that's a sweet guitar tone man. The only I can think of is maybe bringing out the kick a little more, could just be something specific to my monitoring. Nice work.

the vox, they were hard for me to dial in, because of the guitars...
on my monitors, they sound hot in the mix, but i'm battling with a less than stellar room to mix in anyway...
i even re-did the drums to bring out more of them.... and must have missed the snare elements that i really wanted to stand out..
on my monitors, in my room, the kick is really loud.
just goes to show how bad my room is for mixing....
i really wanted to rent time in a local studio to do the mixes, and then, well, shit happens, and the funds dried up... so i did the best i could in my home studio...
plus, the original tracks i got, didn't have a lot of click in the kick, it was all low end, and a bit muddy.... i tried to carve out at 400hz, with a fairly low Q, and add in some 2khz and some 140hz to get a little more thump out of it...
those specific things you mention, are the things i wished i could have dialed in more.

the drums, ha! they WERE my favorite part....
Brent, the drummer, did such a good job catching the vibe of the song....
but these were engineered elsewhere, tracks were sent to me, and then i found that when i brought the drums up loud as i really wanted them, they stepped on everything else....
the cymbals..... you know, i believe there was very little compression used on the overheads (left and right, that's all the cymbal tracks) and i think it would have helped to have tracked them with a more aggressive compression, just to bring out that thickness... good catch.

it's a shame i couldn't get those drums more dialed in before i had them mastered.
a good monitoring setup, is worth it's weight in gold.
in my room, the drums are almost overpowering....
i guess it's bass trap city for me, for future projects....

i think you're right about the drums, everyone seems to be in agreement.
the guitars, are a mix of Carvin dc200 and old school mesa boogie.
