Unkle Ticklefingers
Here is a sample rythum of a song I am working on with Cellardweller. I'm searching for a guitar tone, and trying to get the bass to fit properly. The drums will be replaced, or at least made to sound better, but just a guide for now. There will also be some replaced guitar sounds, when CD gets a chance to, and then we will work out the vocals. No scary singin yet.... :D

Sample
Any thoughts???

Thanks.

the guitar sounds good to me, what did you use to mic it up?
The track sounds exiting, would be very cool to hear it with vox
the bass could come up a few notches.
other than that it was a cool rythm. :)

Hey man, like the guitar tone. Sounds good over here. I could see this song really rocking with the new drums and then some powerful vocals.

Are we going to get some scary dogman vocals out of this? :D

As far as the bass goes, sounds like you could crank it a bit. Overall it does sound like the midrange is a bit high right now on the whole piece, maybe from the drums, but you could always reduce that later or so..

Groovy rhythm ;)

Ok, bass. This is the first take on that. I can't seem to find a tone to fit this. Some seem so overdriven, but others seem too clean. This to me is too clean. Would more drive be better? And drums....so far I can't find a sample I really like, but haven't played with it much yet. I have some ideas, but they always seem pretty whimpy.

Vocals will hopefully be a mixture of Myself, with CD doing some. If you've heard Hunger Strike by Temple Of The Dog, that is what I sort of envision, just not near as smooth.... :D

BTW, wanna try and do some bass for this, anyone????

Well the bass tone sounded fine to me, just too quite. So try just increasing the volume on that track and seeing what happens.

I would try a bass part on this... I can't guarantee anything great.. but I'd try and maybe you'd like it :D

Later, back to the immigrant song for me...

Same as everyone else said.
I like the guitars.
Bass could come up.
Needs more beer.
The ride has to go (I know drums will be replaced)

Nice work dog.

Now, how do I get TimboZ to buy me some beer.......
Thanks dude. The bass needs some work, and will probably be the next thing...Then on to the drums...

Go for it. My bass skills are kind of like my guitar playing....and my vocals.....

Cool doggy, can you send me a version without the bass? I can jam over it a few times and see if you dig it.

I'll play mad synth all over the track too :D ...jk

Cool, I'll hopefully have time to get around to this tonight... otherwise soon ;)

Hey Dogman, the guitars sound really good!! Played solidly.

You said drums were going to be replaced, and that is good. And also bass, so I won't comment on them other than saying that maybe the bass-line could be more busy, a few wandering licks here and there; and totally more drive on it!

The guitars sound good and big. Did you mic your cab for this, or use a pod? I don't think it was mentioned earlier, if it was then, my bad.

Incanus, I did both mic, and direct. This is 4 guitars, 2 mic'd and 2 direct, panned L/R. Hopefully CD will replace one side of them soon, and i think SnakeDog is doing a bass for me. My bass playing is usually just guitar notes, so nothing too spectacular.
Thanks for the listen.

Hey dogman, I'll record a few different versions later tonight (different amp sounds, different styles) and see which one you like...

Shit man, I don't know how I missed this thread. Guits sound great to me. Hey man, you want drums on this? Let me know, I'd be glad to do some.

RAMI, I'd love some drums. I can post a version, no drums, whatever. Let me know what you want.

Okay this is pretty quick & rough stuff right here (not much mixing done), but I thought I'd post what I got so far. These are all like 1 minute clips and have a similar bass part on each track, but different feels... there's a little intro to each one too so you can hear the bass by itself.

Let me know if you like any of these and I'll record the whole song like and play around with the part a bit more, otherwise I can still mess around with some more tones...

1) Rock Bass - A Bass with some high end I use in my surf rock songs... for sure too high in this mix... oh well for now.

2) Rock Bass2 - Very solid rock bass sound I use for a lot of my songs. Just used it on the immigrant song yesterday.

Very low, barely any high end...

Very low, no high end

3) Chorus-Bass - Sounds funny by itself but I used this in some songs, kind of like the feel it adds.

4) Fuzzy Bass - Kind of an experiemental thing I've been trying... really chunky nastier distorted stuff... sounds kind of cool on the high chords

Snake, I liked them all, but number 1 was really cool for this tune. 4 is killer also, as it adds a different feel in there. I think you mixed 1 in the best, as this song really needs some bass to carry it along, and my playing was just too lame. Try it with 1 or 4, and we'll get it mixed in pretty loud, and see what happens...
Thanks, man.
Ed

Yeah sounds good man mix wise.
Not sure but you could maybe try taking some lo end out of the guitars or maybe a small cut with wideish Q at 150-200Hz area to clean up the tone a bit.
Like the snare. Is that a sample? sounds very consistent in sound and dynamics.
Good stuf Dogman.
