King of Bling
Brand new...it needs stuff. Like a cello, or some distorted guitar swells. Ideas very welcome.

The subject's a little on the dark side. Everybody needs to write about DEATH every once in awhile...and addiction. 2 fer 1 here.

EVERY CHANCE I GET

This is sweet chris, whatever you decide to add will be wonderful I'm sure. I think no drums on this at least in the beginning, up to around 4:00 and even then maybe not. Some nice soft percussion starting at almost nothing and slowly adding, shakers, blocks, bells, a triangle? Maybe add congas or brushed drums at 4:00. Oops...Sorry just me butting in :o
Beautiful song and great vocals and playing. More, more.....:D

...and stars taboot, taboot :p

Wow I got caught up in the mood of this right off the bat-your voice is great and crystal clear as always-an excellent performance(s) did I hear an edit or 2?(1:06?) baah so what-great sad tune....

As far as mix and production-it almost sounds like the voice distorts or something-I may be wrong I'm having streaming probs ATM so I cant double check. The guitars seem to step on each others toes a bit-if they were doing diff inversions from each other now and then-might sound good....A haunting pedal steel would fit this perfect IMO or a violin/viola maybe?Anyway-I like it as is too-you're getting your mood and message across just fine. Nice work.

The vocal has something too loud. It's a bit piercing somehow. Maybe it's too loud or some frequency just jumps too much. Not sure. The vocals are good performance wise, though. Hey, get that piano louder there, I like that.

Pretty melancholic song. There's definitely some secret folk-ballad buzz going on here that I missed. Maybe I miss all these things because I only post on the clinic.

chris,
well sung as always.......maybe a nice clean guitar doing some bendy electric leads kind of in the background...........i don't know, i don't think it needs drums, if you add drums, maybe a really gentle snare roll or something like that...........it works fine as is though......good song.

I really like this tune..

I did notice that some high end is missing..... It almost (The voice and guitar) sounds like on a stereo when the treble knob is turned all the way down.....

Sorry to be so un-scientific, but im not good with picking out frequencies.

Great song though, and great performance.

Awesome!

Joe

Thanks guys.

Barometer...you got a shaker? Honest to God, I can't even "shake" in time; and I KNOW you can. I'd kill for a conga, too.

Strat - Oh hell yeah, you probably hear a TON of edits. :D For as simple as my mixes are, I actually beat them to death, and edit...and re-edit. I can't hear anything anymore. About the vocal distorting, that concerns me. I'm wasn't hearing it, but I remixed it and yanked out the mids, just in case. If anybody else still hears it, lemme' know. Thanks for listening.

CrankyOne - What piano? (Like I said above, I remixed it, and I hope the vox aren't as "piercing" now - I appreciate your time and comments and shit :D...piano...sheesh).

Powder - Your songs all suck, and your opinion means nothing to me. (Oh yeah, I added a clean electric, like you said - But it's so "DI'd" sounding, I won't keep it for long). Man, some strings would sound really cool, wouldn't they?

JUST WAITING ON THE CELLO/VIOLA PLAYER TO SHOW UP...(hopefully, with a percussionist).

No apology necessary AT ALL, since this is the kind of feedback that I can actually understand. Joe, did the version you listened to have a clean electric?

Just trying to figure out which one you heard. They probably both need highs... I know I need to be hig... nevermind.

Thanks,
Chris

Yeah... It is the one with the clean strat.

The eq problem moreso affects the voice, but the guitars are affected a bit also.

Joe

Can you say "Highs"

Thanks man...I turned up the treble knob. Sounds better to me.

Chris

yeah...the one with "lectric" in the title.

Now go read your rave reviews on the crowes tune, you ninny. :D

chris

aahhhhh.... wanna dance? Nice song, Chris. Cello would be cool.... but something cello-esque and not necessarily a cello would be even cooler... or is it more cool.. anwyho... maybe a cello arrangement on pedal steel or dobro, vocal swells, or even a slightly distorted guitar with delay/reverb and some volume swells like you'd get from a Boss slow gear, Morley ACV, or Guyatone slow volume.

Your vocals are always excellent. In my head I was hearing female back-ups instead of you... does the wife sing? Either way, I'm very envious of your vocal talent.

The guitars sounded good to me. Everything sounded good to me. A little warmth would help, but that's just me being nit picky. Nice work.

great stuff

The strings are playing in my head. Would`nt it be great to have a string quartet just lying around the house.

You`ve got a unique voice and I stil love "December". I`m going to sit and listen to all your tunes..thanks in Advance mate.

I hear this song as a duet with a girl for some reason. Anyway, just so say that was good, I aint a mixxer champ yet

Erland

More good stuff Chris.

There something cluttered going on though. Like all the guitars are competing for the front, at the expense of the vocal. While things sound very good, the mix kinda makes me a bit sea-sick at times. Some sibilance at the beggining I thought, but it seems to have cleared up.

You ought to do a collab with Erland. You guys have similar styles that would work well together.

Another very good song Chris.

i like the added guitar.......the lick right at about 30 seconds is exactly the kind of stuff i was hearing in my head

Re: great stuff

hey chris,nice tune!
i love a good story even if it is a sad one.
in my head i hear two versions of this song;one being country and the other being folk.
in the country version a female would sing the back up vox and instead of cello it would have a really haunting violin solo(as well as a recurring melody line played on same)and no drums at all.
in the folk version i hear it much as it is now but no "lectric".
in stead ;a finger picked guitar(maybe two playing couter point to each other,as well as the strummed acoustic)just some food for thought.
btw thanks for your kind review of the whisker biscuit blues.

sincerly,
growlin' clarence

I got all kinds of toys laying around. I'd be happy to lend a hand too :D

Real sweet tune you have here. I also can hear something coming in, right around the 1:40 mark (or so) where you go into a new verse. Some kind of string arrangement or something.

I really like your subtle harmony. It really adds depth to the tune. Real nice guitar sound as well.

Some percussion would really get this tune going and adding even more instrumentation (maybe during the solo at the end) like strings may sound real nice ... of course I'm just blabbering away here ... It actually sounds real good just in its natural state, but it is to a point where adding more instrumentation may really give it an edge.

Nice job! :)
