A really stupid question...

With the BOSS BR-1600, there are 8 XRL inputs. Does that mean the only way to record guitar is through an adapter? Meaning, from quarter inch to male-end of XRL?

Also, if you built your own cables, would there be noticeable less quality?
 
Generally you want to mic an amp anyway. Even if you want to record direct you still need to plug it into a high impedance input or a Direct Box then a mic preamp. Just because the plug fits doesn't mean it is sending the right type of signal.

If you need a lot of cables and have the right tools and knowledge then making cables can be the best way to go. You could easily spend $100 or more just getting setup with the right stuff to do the job efficiently. Holding the solder in your teeth gets old real quick when you have 96 solder points to do.
