we don't need rest!!
why is it in the clinic, people don't really seem so hung up on equipment, using the best mic pres, recording at 50 gazillion bit, and generally seem to listen on computer speakers or headphones for the most part??

all the other forums, people seem so concerned up on whether the VTB-1 is sooo hot, or if they should get better monitors, or what is the best mic for autoharps...etc, etc...

Yet, HERE...in the clinic...THE HEART THROB of homerecording.com...it seems people don't really care so much about the equipment, but just put up goooood music, no matter what kind of equipment they use. I find that "situation" actually pretty amusing....and almost "feel" that there is a different kind of personality exsisting here, than in the other forums. Go hang in the mic forum(for a longer time than usual)....then come back here for "reality"...and you'll see what I mean. At least it seems that way to me. Hanging here actually curbs by gear slut urges. The mic forum makes me wanna open my wallet. I find the mp3 clinic to be more healthy

:)

that gave me a chuckle :)

yes in the end ..its the music that counts.
ive heard some great things on some crappy equipt.
you dont need to spend a ton of money on equiptment

but.. ya know... I wish I could afford a Ferrari :D

I hear ya' mix....and i agree totally. I discovered Homerec from an artist's site and she made the comment that musicians make music, they don't spend all their time building studios. And I think that's very true,... there is a different mentality involved.

I'm a bit of an audiophile....I mostly listen to vinyl, I have fairly developed ears for hearing miniscule differences in pressings, I subscribe to Stereophile.....all of that stuff. And some of my friends that are deeper into it than I am never listen to more than 30 seconds of a song. they'll say "Listen to these bells!" and then as soon as the bells play they take off the record and move on to the bass drum in another tune. They're not into music at all (although they would argue about that), what they are really into is the equipment and the process of reproducing sound. That's a valid thing to be into if that's what floats your boat but it's different than being into music. I think the same's true here. The people here at the clinic are into music, not so much into the equipment. that's why we can make allowances when someone posts something that they tell us up front was recorded on inferior equipment. We all want the best stuff but we're not sitting idle waiting to get it. we just have to make music with whatever's available. And that will make us better when we finally do get that big-money gear we've been wanting.

One other thing....in general, I notice a friendlier and happier attitude than in some of the other forums. Yes we occasionally have our disputes but the over-all atmosphere is one of friends supporting each other as we try to learn this art we all love.

I think that is kinda it. This is probably NOT true, but it seems in the other forums, unless you have "THE" equipment, you can't record. This forum seems just the opposite.

I don't know about the 'friends' thing though... A lot of youse guyz have been drinkin' a lot lately.... makes ya all chummy....
:D

Thats kinda what spawned this whole "Home-Recording" idea isnt it?The idea that a person could make music AND Record it in the comfort of their own home with whatever equipment they had available.

I remember back in the 80's when 4-track cassette machines got so cheap that every musician and his brother jumped on the "Home-Recording' band wagon and it hasnt stopped yet.

Most HomeRecorders rode that wave for years up until this Computer based recording stuff came out and made it even easier to do IMHO.(I still havent jumped onto the Computer wave yet:eek: )

I think this Forum reflects the "common" musician who doesnt have a ton of dough to spend on every new toy that comes out(Thats like every 2 weeks now),but uses what they have to get their Home Brewed Concoctions into a recorded format.

This is more of a "musician-Homerecorder" forum than it is a Recording engineer of producers hang out.

Most musicians are into the music a lot more than they are recording gear and thats a good thing.....music suffers when technology gets in the way of creativity.(There are songs posted here that fall into that category....just stuff created and recorded for the sake of recording with no musical inspiration at all.B grade stuff that doesnt affect the listener in anyway.)

Ok,Im through rambling for now.

Very good and not too secret point there Mixmkr. I'll tell you though, as frustrating as it can be to filter through all the opposing objectivity in those threads (especially of course the mic forum), those of us who haven't followed recording for very long (myself obviously included) will surely benefit from a moderate amount of time in those war zones. Now whether the SP C1 is not quite as good for general purpose as the AT4060, well not everyone needs to know that, or has the ambition to EVER need that.

But, I've noticed your point as well. Not many peeps ask about what equipment was used here. And not many list it in the original post. I don't know if they're embarrassed by it, or just want to imply that their getting Ludwig level sound on a Tascam Porta 05 with Realistik mics.

Interesting thread...

....yeah mix, i'm wit cha...... and why is it that you read so many arguments about what is best in all of the equiptment forums, yet knowbody puts up examples? I would love to "hear" why the John Doe preamp is better than all of the others...... ....and I would like something better than "cause its the one that I bought". Lets see some more use of this mp3 technology that we have at our disposal. .....just ranting, Im guilty of it too. Yeah, this forum is what home recording is all about.:)

trans-tetrahydrocannabinol, (or THC) is the main psychotomimetric (mind bending) ingredient of marijuana. In very potent varieties, carefully prepared marijuana can have up to 12 percent THC. :)

that being said, I hear ya mix.. I don't really care about expensive mics etc., because I can't afford them.. If I was able to, I would probably find more use for the mic forum.. Then again, that info can be found anywhere.. It's the clinic that is the gem.. I used to frequent the official Tascam 788 forum, but then they banned any links for mp3's because someone got offended by someone elses tunes.. One day I recieved an email from this dude named 'Big Papa Fly.' He directed me to this site and said it was a good place to share 788 recordings.. At first we only posted in the Tascam forum, but I took the step one day and posted here in the clinic.. That dude BPF is still around here, but he's kinda strange.. (no offense bpf.) He posted a song and when I commented, he said 'thanks anyway, but I have switched my style of music to total country.' That dude is a bit strange, but I am grateful he pointed me to this site.. I told him that he should post in the clinic, but he wasn't interested.. Actually now that I think of it, there were about 5 other 788 users that posted there songs in the Tascam forum but never posted them here.. I think I'm going to start a thread in the Tascam forum for 788 users to post some tunes.. I don't see any of them around anymore, except for philboyd studge.. I think some of those guys are afraid to put there 788 tunes in the clinic..

Anyway,

hopefully we are living in the last years of the era of illegal marijuana and the persecution of this plant. Cannabis is truly wonderous, having served human needs for perhaps 10,000 years. It deserves renewed attention not only for its chemical properties, but also as an ecologically sensible alternative for synthetic fibers in general and especially wood-pulp paper..

May Cannabis be vindicated...

:)

There seems to be an air of courtesy here regarding most music.

Generally when a post is first thrown out there the first reaction is whether or not it is a good tune. THEN people start to ask the equipment questions or give pointers for mixing. If a tune doesn't reach the point of being complete, that is where people hit first.

It's a cordial arrangement, and in this forum maybe the quality of the song musically comes before the equipment, or mix.

This is where I get opinions on my actual tunes, There are pleanty of other forums to get info before it gets posted here.

Just my 2 squirts :)

Remember Sam, smoking marijuana supports terrorism.

My government told me so.

good topic mixmkr. from what I've noticed, most of the people in the mp3 clinic dont' post too much in the other forums. And vice versa... I think a lot of people in the other forums are too afraid to post less than stellar results with their expensive gear. I know I was for a while.. well, my inexpensive gear... then I started listening to dudes like Chris Harris and his ghetto set-up... damn! So now I don't care about gear... I only care about timing and pitch! No $5000 mic and pre is gonna fix that!
